Misfire

Hi all,

I've got a MK4 1.4 BBY which has a slight misfire problem, after reading the forums it seems the coil packs are a common fault, so I replaced them.
The problem is the fact that the misfire is still there even after replacing the coils packs. Its a slight misfire and happens mainly when the engine is revving at about 2000RPM while just gently "cruising" along.

I've also noticed the idle is a bit lumpy and the idle speed is bit lower than normal.

Is there anything else I can look at that might be causing this?

The spark plugs seemed in decent condition as well as the connectors to the coils.
The car itself only has 35K miles on the clock.

Any help would be much apreciated!

Cheers, Mike

Probably not the response your looking for but I would advise getting someone who knows VAGCom to quickly scan the car.
Some garages do it for free (Some SEAT Garages)
Where abouts are you from?

Appreciate the response CJRamze, thanks

I'm from the Isle of Wight and the SEAT main dealer is only just down the road.
They charge a mint for work, so I was just trying to see if I could solve the problem cheaply.

The car went there when the problem first started (also had an engine management warning light) and they diagnosed a faulty coil and charged £90 for replacements.

The problem started again a few monthes later and a quick check revealed that they had only replaced two of the four coil packs, so I replaced the last two older coils myself.

Sounds like I may have to go back there again to get the car plugged in to the diagnostics to see whats going on :(

Cheers, Mike
