Thought so - wasn't there a thing on watchdog a while back about VAG admitting that their coilpacks were dodgy, and all were replacing them even out of warrenty? They were only replaced 30K ago under warrenty.

normally one goes, then the one next to it trips up if you drive it a little.

but if all four were replaced, and two have failled, you can bet the others will go soon.

When I said buy 4, it's a given they'll all need to be replaced - and you can do it at a time and place that's convenient - or on a cold wet hardshoulder

keep the two good ones in the boot for next time

anyone got a part no? what do you think my chances are of getting them done on good will on grounds that they are only 30K old and were replaed under warrenty - given the press coverage and the fact they are a known fault.

they replaced faulty ones (from a known faulty batch)

but these will likely be considered wear & tear

worth a try, but it might mean driving to the dealer (not great on 2 cylinders)

Assuming we have no chance of a good will / warrenty claim GF now asking if its OK to drive to a workshop 20 miles away (which would be a challenge) - is this going to do any more harm? I don't think we trust any of the local workshops.

Was unaware that driving on with 1 coilpack down tripped up the next in line. Could this be the case if she drives on the remaining 2?

Now glad i have a diesel.

Was the coils, replaced them and the car is running fine again.

Glad we did it ourselves, as the dealership wanted to charge us an hours labour for what actually took all of 5 minutes.

Thanks all.

the light is back on yer,but is it running rough or anyother symptoms??
its either down to the main engine bay connection, a poor earth, ecu terminals or ignition drivers inside the ecu

Car is running perfect. The ignition coils were not branded with the VAG symbol, but I was assured by the motorfactor (reccomended by VW who didn't have any coils in) the part no. was the same and that the coils would be fine. they look exactly the same, fit exactly the same, but the above faults keep coming back. This has only happened since fitting the new coils??

I don't mind driving around in my VRS with the eng management light on (EGR removed) but the GF wont put up with it on the Leon...

FYI - coilpacks are covered by a 5 year warranty so unless you have an early Leon you can get them replaced FOC - don't believe the dealer if they tell you otherwise. Also, it's probably not a great idea to have your full VIN on a public forum - I'd edit your first post it I was you.

No idea on the fault codes you have now - but as goble suggested, I'd check all the electrical connections in the engine bay are clean and tight as a starting point

Tried the stealers and was shot down immediately - they were only replaced 30K ago by the dealers under warrenty. spoke to the customer services manager and was advised that they do not offer good will or warrenty on this part past 1 year.

will check the connections
