Mirror folding on its own

I had a little problem at a car wash some months ago and my left mirror started refusing to either fold or unfold electrically, so I took the car to the dealer and they said the gears for the folding mechanism were damaged, and they'd be happy to change it if I gave them about 200 pounds (I have the car in Mexico so I'm converting loosely) so I decided I'd have to live with it since there is no other damage to the mirror. Lately though it's becoming loose and it started folding when I accelerated and then unfolding as I braked so I decided to take matters into my own hands and yesterday (with the help from some info I found here) managed to take out the door card and the mirror to see if I could change the mechanism. Turns out all the door disassembly was completely unnecessary but anyway I managed to remove the mirror but it has a large spring between me and the folding mechanism and my question is, has anyone successfully removed that spring or changed the folding mechanism? I know some places that could make the gears but first I'd need to get to it. I'll post some pics in a while maybe someone has some ideas.
Thanks
