Afternoon chaps,

I'm looking at selling my integra & going for either a leon or Ibiza (Yet too choose)... However my budget isn't too big (3-4k tops).. I've seen plenty of examples but many over 90k mileage..

How long do these engines last? Would it be safe for me to purchase one over 100k?

Cheers

Hey there.

Obviously depends on how hard the car has been used, but generally as long as it's been correctly serviced at the correct intervals then it's not a problem mate.

Mine has now got 80k on the clock, around 72k when I got it.
Runs a treat.

My last car was a 1.8 (n/a) A3 which now has 130,000 on the clock & still runs fine as it had always been correctly serviced with regular oil change BETWEEN services.

Good luck with the search mate, & keep using the search function on here for sound advice to help in your decision

My Leon 1.8t has covered nearly 145k with FSH, no major problems in the 10k I've done only a split hose, a set of brake pads and a tail/brake light bulb. It's also just done 180 mile round trip to Northallerton for a blast on a rolling road so I think its safe to say 100k+ isn't a worry so long as its been maintained correctly.
Just buy and enjoy!

I'd say check for water in all of the footwells [will be door seals or pollen filter]

Check all panel gaps for alignment [accident damage]

Check tyres for even wear [could mean somethings bent]

obvious engine rattles.

Check all electrics and fluid levels

the secondary air pump will be pretty noisy when started from cold [could sound like jet engine] this should cut out after approx 2 mins and should idle fine after that.

I'd want to see lots of recipts for work done including a cambelt change.

Lots of old MOT's to back up milage is always good.

Hope this helps.

Cheers lads, Will certainly keep those points in mind. Hopefully I can pick up an 03+ plate as i really want the facelift model.. If not i'll have to buy the kit optionally.

So did I but tbh I bought the best I could find at the time, and tbh the pre facelift is a lot more of a sleeper and surprises a few people! lol!!

Sometimes I hate depreciation

I know a neighbour had an A3 1.8t, he bought his with 130k on it and had it remapped. Last I heard it had done over 150k.

It can also work to your advantage, I picked my x plate Leon 1.8t sport up in the height of the recession for £1500 with FSH but it had 136k on it, I bet I could still get more if I sold it........but I'm not!

Was that the one that was for sale on here? I remember being amazed at a high miler at such a low cost!

I bought mine for £3,800 2 years ago with 72k on it. It was pretty much the cheapest Cupra I could find at the time by several hundred ££'s
With the minimal service history and plentiful body marks i'm sure it would be worth a lot less now. Not that I plan on selling it yet anyway ;)
Would be gutted to see the value drop below 2k though :headhurt:

Adam, can i ask how much you I would expect to pay for a facelift conversion? (If i were to buy a pre-facelift)

Have a read through Adam Cupra 20vt's readers ride thread, his was a pre face lift, I don't know if he lists prices though but 2nd hand is much cheaper than buying parts from the dealers

EDIT: didn't read 1st word in sentence:doh:

Just want a brief estimate on how much it would roughly cost. I dont know if its worth saving the extra for a facelift.

To do it properly I'd budget betweem 800-1200 inc painting using second hand parts

The parts have gone up alot now the mk1 leon is no longer in production. [if buying new]

I was lucky enough to do mine pretty cheap as its what I used to do for a living :)
