Michelin Piolt Primacy HP

Anyone tried them?

Replacing my P6000's which the dealer put on when I bought the car. I got 12k out of the the front 2 and got a puncture in one of the rears. The spare is breaking down so might as well replace the lot!

Did look at Eagle F1's - but these Michelin's seem to have great reviews.

Can get them fully fitted for £360 from *shudders* kwikfit as part of an offer they have on. They are ~£350 fitted from MyTyres (after fitting). Might as well just get them done at kwitfit which is at the end of the road

Good tyres by all accounts. The firm favourite around here is the Eagle F1, but that doesn't mean they are the only option! If the price is right on the Michelins, go for it!

Out of interest, is that price for all 5 tyres? Or just the 4 and not the spare?

That's the price for 4 new tyres. The offer at kwikfit is 25% off if you buy 4. There is still one good tyre on the car which has loads of tread left so that will be my new spare.

Very tempted at that price. The write ups are superb.

I don't think Primacy's are the right spec for a cupra. My LC came with Michelin Pilot sports and when I came to replace them I got quotes from a number of places and they all said theat the Primacy was not right for the car. I went with Pilot Sport 2's in the end. Goodyears do seem a favourite on here but I went for the Michelin again as i'm getting about 19k miles on the front of the car, more on the rear as expected.

My friend has got Michelin Pilot Sports fitted to his Leon Fr+ and he swears by them, think these might be a better option for a Cupra.

SeatStu - You say the right spec - any idea what the defined spec is for a Curpa? I guess its because the PHP's have softer walls than "sports" tyres?

I don't know exactly, I'm guessing the speed rating or posiibly the build of the tyre or something such as that. Are the Primacy's directional?, as the Pilot sports are, not sure if the F1's are either.

The PS2's I find are really good tyres, the grip in dry and wet weather is superb and they seem to last for good mileage.

They are probably not the cheapest but you get what you pay for as with most things.

Well the Michellin website recommends Primacy.

Another option is Goodyear Excellence - less soft than Eagle F1, but nearly the same grip. Much better in the cold as well.

Given up on the idea of HP's. They are designed with a softer touring ride in mind. Going to go for Sports I think. I'm having trouble finding them though. Any suggestions of where to get them for a reasonable price?

Edit: For LC 205/55/R16

Can only suggest usual search for tyre companies, mytyres, rochford tyres e.t.c. I paid £240 fitted for a pair of PS2's at a local tyre fitters the last time.

Just got a quote for Pilot Sports from National Tyres - £95 each fitted when buying 4.

Nice :D

Was speaking to a bloke in our canteen about this at lunchtime. He's just changed from Continentals to Michelin Pilot Sport 2's, and although he says they are very good he is looking to change to P-Zero Nero's.

Obviously I filled him in on the Leon owners dislike of the P-Zero Rosso, but supposedly the Nero is a far better tyre (admittedly this is on an M3). He said that in a magazine test the Nero was 2 seconds quicker round a track than the MPS2, and was 4 seconds quicker than the Conti's Sport Contact 2's (I have these - doh!).

Problem is you can't try before you buy, but MPS2's are going to be good tyres so are worth a punt.

Gutted - the Michelin PS are discontinued in R16. Can't find PS2 for R16 so had to go for Eagle F1's. Under pressue due to tax, MOT etc...so had to order today.

Not to worry. Got a great deal on F1s. £61.00 each from MyTyres and £10 each for fitting. Can't grumble althouh I'd have prefered the Michelins.

Mine is an 02 model with 16". I assumed they were the standard alloys that came with the car oringinally.
