Meguiars G220 accessories help

Guys,

I managed to get hold of a new G220 yesterday at a good price. One of those 'no time to think' purchases. The thing is now I need to know what I need to buy to de-swirl my car's paintwork.

I have read the Polished Bliss article and understand that I require:

1. Some 'clay' to prepare the surface
2. A medium abrasive polish
3. A polishing pad (or two?)

Can the experienced amongst you suggest/recommend what exactly I need to buy and where from? If there is an all in pack or kit that would be good.

It really depends on the condition of the paint on what type of material you'll need.

Always worth Claying once a year.


You'll need some pads for starters, the meguiars pads are very good, you can get cheaper but I've found these last much longer.

So, you need to start with:
Meguiars 6.5" Polishing Pad used with Menzerna Intensive Polish (PO91L)

Then to finish it off & add a little extra to the shine, I'd use:
Meguiars 6.5" Finishing Pad combined with Menzerna Final Finish (PO 85RD)


Then top off with your favourite wax

I would recommend claying when needed and not having a set routine. To tell if your car needs claying just simply use the back of your hand and stroke your paint. If it feels grity (After a wash) then a clay stage might be needed. Your paint should feel as smooth as clean glass when clayed properly.

On to the polishing stage.

As above really it depends on the current condition of your paint. A safe bet would be to get yourself a polishing pad and a finishing pad followed with a mild polish and a finishing polish.

If it's for the cars stated in your signature then the full megs kit would be ideal as would the Menzerna range Jace has mentioned above.

The only other thing I would look at would be a masking tape like 3M 3434 High Performance Masking Tape to cover all black plastics and rubbers along with any badges or handles.

Other than that you are pretty much set to go assuming you have your sealants or waxes already to finish off.

I wasn't meaning we have a kit as such and I was not trying to lure you onto our site. That is your freedom of choice.

I was just simply trying to state that the Megs range would be a good starting point for you.

Sorry for any confusion but we appreciate your veiwing of our site anyway.

We do however stock the Megs range but it would have to be purchsed seperataly.

Bugger - it seems you need clay lubricant as well as the clay. Looks like I'll have to wait until next weekend.
