Ey up!

Was driving along in sheffield last night in me LCR, went slowly over a speed hump and heard this metal noise come from under the car like a bolt had dropped o nthe road or something... next thing i know pressing the accelerator makes a loud noise - as if the exhaust is now blowing... so i get out have a look but all looks good, so i open the bonnet press the accelerator and the engine tries to leap outta the car (well it moves more than usual) and the car moves alot more than usual... sounds like an engine mount problem... Also a bit of water seemed to be leaking from just in front of the gearbox. (about a cups worth where the aircon is)

Anyone else suffered a similar problem? I'm a bit worried that the SEAT garage is gonna screw me over and say its all messed up etc etc?

Any ideas?

Cheers

Ste!!

Sounds like mount gone, and water is probably just from aircon condenser.

Hmm re read that and with the noise maybe exhaust manifold problems now, and as robm m says hoses as a cup is more than the condenser drops.

Unless it is in warranty I would find a decent independent engineer as they will likely have lower labour rates that the stealers

If the mount has gone and the engine is moving more than normal, it's possible that any one of your hoses has popped off or split, so keep an eye on all your fluid levels.

I was told by Mike from JBS that there is a pipe directly underneath the engine that could be squashed/split if the mounts go, that could be your liquid problem (haven't a clue what it is though sorry)

Just rung them and its being "looked" at now. but they did say that if it is the mounts it wont be a long job - it was more that they were busy all week so they had to fit me in.

Happened to me a while ago in my renault 19 16v, tried to jump start, broke a couple of mounts, drove about 40 miles with the engine hanging out the bottom and the gear stick 6 inches out of place. Serve me right for buying French!!

Damage....

So far - engine mounts at the gearbox have gone. basically the gearbox housing had been completely thread such that they need to get a guy to "rethread it" so to speak. Power steering cable was slashed which explains the leak (although steering didnt feel different). cost £290...

Thats only if the mount can be re-threaded otherwise i am told that the gearbox mounts come part of the gear box - eg its all one part so i would need a gear box potentially....

Still waiting to hear if its gone ok though.

:(

As the warranty has only just run out, you might have some luck if you approach Seat UK Customer Services for a 'goodwill gesture', as one of their cars should be expected to last more than 3 and a bit years before the gearbox falls out!

In that case it's unlikely. Was it a Seat extended warranty? Worth a try regardless though, they can only say no. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
