Well after all my grand plans for the Cupra my dad has decided he wants to go and live with his girlfriend!

So im on the hunt for a house, so the Cupra may need to give way  to either a cheaper car or one that is cheaper to run!

My choices so far are as follows:

Mk2 Golf Gti
Mk2 Cupra 16v
Escort GTI
Pug 205/106/306 GTI

Or if im going to go sensible:
Corsa CDTI SRI
Ibiza TDI Sport 110 (if I could find one!)

What do people think?

Cheers

Thing with the corsa is for the money i get for the Cupra i can get like a year old one but i guess depreciation is an issue! lol

What's the point of selling to buy another car of the same price? Rent etc is going to be more than the difference in running costs.

pal my car does 35mpg roughly the corsa does 50mpg+ and is 11 ins groups less. hence saving for ins would be less of an issue, also a new car will still be under warranty and so costs will be lower if anything goes wrong!

Yeah, but looking at my monthly outgoings on housing, food, bills, you'd have to be doing a lot of miles to recoup the fuel difference.....

If your car is on a loan, I suggest that goes first & buy a beater.

House cost >£500 rent
Food> £300
Council tax >£120
Gas/Electric/Water > £100
TV Licence > £10
Contents Insurance > £20

And that's befor broadband, Sky, telephone

Clearly if you have another person to split most of those with it's better, but if you do ~ 1000 miles a month costing £250, saving 1/3 of the fuel bill isn't going to cover the new bills.

You won't survive long on £3/day - Hell, that's my mid morning snack cost.

Even renting a room in a shared house (which I did for 2 yrs) was ~£250/month, but I still had to pay a portion of the broadband, phone - and food for one is more than you'd think.

Don't presume a cheap car is unreliable - just buy sensibley & you're OK.

It's that or get a 10k pay rise. whichever is easiest :)

Well im looking an a Fiat X19 tonight lol quirky and cheap to insure ok not great reliability wise but I can sort it out! Im not buying any food outside of a weekly shop I have worked out all my out goings and I will have £200 a month after paying everything including the car loan.

But if I get rid of the car i will have more money (obviously!) My boss has promised me a rise for 8 months now and considering the last guy to do my job did in fact earn 10k more than me i may well push it lol

None of my mates will move out of their parents house as its too cushy for them!

Pal dont tell me in not realistic! Whatever happens I dont have a choice about moving out and I have been sitting down for months working out what I need to afford to live.

I have worked out my mortgage, council tax, maintanence, petrol, bills and loan.

And its comes to just shy of £200 below my wages therefore should have £200 after paying everything.

I have to say i wouldnt bother selling your cupra!

I had one about three years ago and sold it to try and sort out my money issues, i ended up buying a MK2 Golf GTI which was exactly the same if not more expensive than my cupra in every respect, the fact that it was older and kept needing repairing probably didnt help to be honest! Ok so it latest me two years but i still had to get a head gasket done on it, i mean a head gasket going on a 16V is pretty unheard of with these VWs or so i thought?

Anyway the point is, you may save £10 petrol/diesel and get 50-100 miles more to the tank but thats it and if you sell yours and risk getting something older it could make you worse off in the long run, you know?

This is all just my opinion of course but speaking from experience unless you are scraping from the barrel (which i was back then so i had no choice) then dont do it and keep your cupra

but if your sums are saying you're within £200 at the end of the month, then that's close....

even a small bill or a boiler service and bits would tip you into the red. v close to call. You need a lodger :)

I dont earn a bad wage its just bcoz the area I want to live in is so expensive
