Heyya,

Just noticed something weird yesterday, my revs started bouncing between 700'ish-1000... I read some posts on here and tried unplugging the Mass air flow sensor/meter and it seemed to have stopped it...

My question is, are there any fitting guides? is this something i can do easily myself? I know very little about mechaincs...

Is there a part number for a 1.8T 20v cupra? I know I want bosh but I want to order the correct one and I cant see the part number on mine?

Thanks for the reply..

It seems like its screwed onto the air filter box? one end on a hose other on the box?

Also any idea on a part number? I read GSF are the place to get them from but they have a few on there..

noticed this though?

Seems like there is a gap between the edge of the sensor and the air filter box.. got me wondering if this could be whats causing the problem? is there any way to safley seal that gap?

That gap won't affect the airflow reading as it's on the air filter side of the MAF rather than the engine side. But it does mean that dirty air has a way into your MAF and engine without going through the filter, so you should really seal it up when you get your new MAF. That gap is probably the reason why you're having to replace it.

I found undoing the jubilee clip, then removing the top of the air filter housing along with the MAF to be the easiest way to get it out. Then you can get to the two screws fixing it to the top of the housing.

As it's an exchange unit you're probably best off taking it off and getting it to GSF to swap it straight over. But as far as I can tell there isn't much variety with the MAF's, you'll probably find it's the same one for lots of cars.

inside there is a spogot and o-ring

bouncy idle can be airleaks from the vac pipes..
look for pipes around the underneath of the inlet manifold which have an oil residue on them... as the oil residue came out of the engine and will help locate the leak
it could be maf yes, they are crap components, but also leaks are prevelant also which ecu tries to accommodate by its internal ability to adjust fueling..
if you have access to vagcom get to log 032 and see what the numbers are.. first % being a highish number is indicative of an air leak the ecu is compensating for, second block is indicative of a failing airflow meter if uts number is high..
block 001 in vagcom on idle when it bounces will be adjusting + or -ve which is a guide also to there being an airleak it cant cope with. It can adjust 25% fueling on lambda but if the error is bigger it gives up and you get an engine rev flare.. andf revs bounce a bit
