Last time I looked into LPG (about 2-3yrs ago) you couldn't put it on a Turbo car, but that may very well have changed.

i had my 01 cupra converted to gas. Its the best thing i ever did. 1500 to convert. i been running it for a year now and made my money back already.
46p a litre.

i'm looking at getting it done. On an injected car there is a little loss in performance but with turbos there can be an increase in power due to the lower charge temps. You can get them done for around £1300 now aswell.

Hi kev. yes there is a slight performance difference and lpg is less potent than petrol. but you barely notice it when the turbo kicks in. My system has a safety feature on it so that when i am booting and it the system thinks its under too much strain it automatically switches over to petrol and you can feel the car surge forward but only a little. i got mine done at a place in Tamworth. also if anyone is to get it done make sure the fitter is a member of the LPGA.

The fitter also told me that lpg is cleaner burning than petrol so there can be longer times between oil changes. As for filling stations you can buy a book off the net for around five pounds that tells you where your nearest filling station is. They are more wide spread than people think they are.

ooo, im tempted with this one now, been thinking about it for a while but after reading this i bet i would get my £1300 back pretty quickly and if it can be used on turbo cars now then i will have to look into this further. Anyone know if its ok if the car has a few mods (remap, exhaust and filter)?

i asked my fitter if i could remap my car after it been done. he said the lpg system has its own ecu and i think he said it can have it remapped as the lpg ecu adjusts itself to the petrol ecu. the best thing would be to ring up and ask.. i will hopefully be getting a remap in the next couple o months as i am skint now. just serviced my r1 and got some new wheels for my cupra so cash a bit short a the mo!

i think diesels can also be converted but i am not sure if it is more expensive. again you would have to ask.

Coverting a diesel would surely involve a bit more work than a standard petrol engine. There are no spark plugs for a start.

cheers, il have a look today. The big thing that puts me off the conversion is the extra filler cap that i really dont want to have on the car. Would like to hide it inside the rear door (just above or below the latch) but dont know if this is allowed?

my filler cap is on the opp side of my petrol one. i will try and put some pics up. he did a very tidy job.

I've seen one where the filler cap is behind the number plate (number plate is on a hinge) - looks great as it's totally out of the way !

where the spare tank fitted and if poss can i have the number for the place in tamworth as i live in cov thanx
