Lpg lcr?

I have a 2005 Leon Cupra R. I'm doing about 20,000 miles a year 15,000 for work which I get paid 40p a mile for the first 10,000 and 20p there after.

I am (for financial gain primarily) considering the LPG option. I'm looking at a duel fuel option. ie. being able to switch between petrol and LPG.

1. What are your thoughts of converting / running on LPG?
2. What mileage can I expect to get per gallon of LPG?
3. What power loss should I expect running on LPG?
4. Is there a particular system I should go for?
5. Does anyone know where in the Brighton / Eastbourne area I can get this done by a decent outfit?

my uncle had lpg done on his bmw, after a few months it went all horribly wrong...caused too many problems.had to revert back to petrol...i would recomend a deisel option or something...bad experiences with lpg

Not heard bad things like Faisal about LPG but when I used to have my 200sx, 2 years ago, there was a guy running a 200sx @ 320bhp with LPG and we swore by it.
Guess its down to the quality of the work donw on the conversion.

I had my LCR converted to LPG in the middle of last year. It was a really difficult decision to have it done, cost of conversion vs amount of actual savings. LPG is not as efficient as petrol as a fuel so its not a 1:1 replacement. Therefore you need to consider how long it will take you to get back the the initial cost of the installation before you start to save money.

I haven't had any issues and have several friends running LPG on a variety of cars with no issues. I haven't noticed any difference in power. The latest generation of kits are much more advanced than the early stuff.

The true grin factor is when you fill up £20 for 250 miles of motoring Also I believe that having a kit fitted can increase the resale value of a car by around £500. Oh and you can save a whoooping £15 on car tax.

i presume if you convert you would still get the same money from work..? as i presume you would update the dvla recorded to show it was dual fuel?

You can buy a fit for about £1000 and fit it yourself.... Or you can pay £1500 and get it installed professionally. Depends how mechanically minded you are and if you want the reassurance that it’s been fitted, tested and certified by someone who knows what they are doing?

i heard the government offer grants for those who qualify for it? have you looked into that?

the margins are certainly less than people think. As said above, 1 litre of LPG is not equivalent to 1 litre of petrol, so this needs to be taken into account when working out potential savings..
as does the initial outlay...

then. its not guaranteed that the lower duty will be as low as it is currently in the future.

The government only offers a small number of grants for certain cars and the leon is not one of them

I calculated that it would take around 18months to break even for the cost of the install on my car, so LPG has to be considered a long term investment to make it worth while.

Where did you get the conversion done? Or did you do it yourself? I knew the ratio wasn't 1:1, but if you're getting 250 miles for £25. Rough calculation that's about 22 miles a gallon. Not bad.

Yes I think I'd still get the same amount for mileage. My company doesn't discriminate between Petrol and Deseil, so I wouldn't have thought LPG would be a problem.
