I'm looking at maybe coming back to VAG with a LPG turbo as my Astra H 1.9 CDTi is only managing 40.9mpg:censored:

So, I've seen THIS Leon which seems a decent prospect on the face of things but I was told the miles are a little high even for the price.

Any opinions of if it's worth a look or not? Anyone know the car at all?

Thanks

there might be one or 2 knocking around on here.....:)

Dunno how much LPG conversion is tho. but 20vt's get 40 if drive like a granny ive heard. I havnt had much experience with LPG tho.

If u get a 1.9tdi youll get 60 on motorway runs. thats what i get anyway.

As long as its got Cambelt/waterpump history done. every 70k is recommended, and the rest is ok, should be alright.

if you can, find out if the lpg system has been serviced and if they have the lpg installation certificate. i had a BRC lpg system on a mk3 golf gti 8v and it was great, cheap fuel and still pulled well for an 8v.

Hi I have been running LPG on my Cupra R for over 5 years and is a good option on save on fuel bills. As you are looking at buying a car with the conversion already done you will start saving on your fuel bills straight away, instead of clawing back the £1500 install costs.

If I was buying a car with a LPG conversion already done I would want to know:

1 - Who did the install and do they have a certificate for it, your insurance company may want a copy of this and if you plan to register the car as 'Alternative fuel' with the DVLA to get a road tax reduction you will need it.

2 - When was the LPG system last serviced, there are valves and seals which need to be checked and the software on the LPG ECU may need to be updated.

3 - What type of system is it, single or multipoint LPG injection? Multipoint is more fuel efficient but more complicated to fit.

Am real interested in an LPG conversion. My 05 20v 1.8 t is currently doing ave 37mpg, 41mpg motorway.
Soon to be doing 150 mile round trip per day for a year. 35000 miles and the wrong side of £6k in fuel.
Proper interested in any opinions thoughts recommendations as I could well be converting.

LPG is a higher octane fuel than petrol so there should be no lose in performance. It also burns cooler than petrol so in theory making the car more tuneable.

As I said, I have had my LCR converted for 5 years now with no problems related to the LPG and it has been serviced normally within this time period.

If you are thinking of converting a car then you need to do some maths to ensure you are happy with the payback period as this cost of conversion could take sometime to claw back.

Tempted to pull the trigger on this...from the sounds of it there should be no implications for a revamped car?
