Im thinking about converting my Leon Cupra R(210) to LPG.Has anyone out there done this to the same or similar model? It would be good to speak to someone who knows a bit about this subject before i take the plunge and get it done.Im told it has little,if any effect on the power and you can get twice the mileage for your money......anyone care to comment?

I have looked into LPG conversions over the past 10 year for various cars i hae owed.
Right now it’s for a 530i BMW that my wife drives.

Best price i could get was £1600+VAT fitted. Go for a spare wheel tank and you will get about 40l of fuel, but at least it’s out the way if you need boot space (obviously you will have no spare wheel and need a can of foam or AA membership at least)

Go for the sausage tank and you are looking at about 60l of fuel capacity, bigger tank but less boot space.

For me we have a new baby so boot space was important, problem with the smaller tank is that i would have a range of about 180 miles tops (not great)

Bear in mind that you will get about 5-10% less mpg using LPG (less energy in the fuel over petrol)

We only do about 8k miles a year so it was not looking very cost effective, to be honest its the small range that puts me off the most, and the closest LPG supplier to be is 7 miles away.

Something to think about.

I think we all like the idea of the low cost fuel, but it takes a while to get back the cost of the initial equipment installation in terms of the money you save on fuel. Also, they aren't foolproof systems. My dad has an LPG converted V8 Discovery and while it costs him much less to run than it would on petrol, he's had his fair share of annoying problems which he has to go and get fixed. It seems the slightest glitch in the system causes huge problems!

Did you see that story in the sun newspaper today? a guy had LPG fitted in his Range Rover and somehow the tank exploded or something, set all the back seats on fire and his son was trapped in there, they all got quite badly burnt. You sure you still want LPG?

I have mine LCR (210) running at lpg(i) (Liquid Propane Injection ).
The only problem i have is that some people dont want to believe that it is possible. [:@]
It cant work with an turbo and two intercoolers is the most heard argument.
Well it is working just fine over here. :bleh:

Ok, you loose a bit of torque and some bhp (3-6) but i can live with that.
I have only done 6000 miles so far but with no problems at all.

If you have any questions, please ask.

The conversion was 2100 euros with an valve lubrication system and the filling hole behind the license plate. It was 3 days of work.

I live in the Netherlands so you have to convert the km to miles and gallons. I can do 9km with one litre of lpg. The tank can hold max. 70 ltr, but it can only be filled for 80%.

Hope this helps.
