lowering a Leon Cupra with 19s? help please

Hi everyone,

after a long hard few weeks ive spent a fortune on getting a full service done inc cam belt water pump and tensioners etc plus a full service im now in the process of carrying out some modz.

Ive got 19" alloys on my car and im looking to get it lowered but i dont quiet know whats the safest lowering mm to go for. some people are saying dont bother others are saying 20mm some have even said 35mm so im getting a variety of opinions here and im confused with what to go for. any advice from anyone here would be more than appreciated. my pics are in the gallery and i do have some clearance in the arches.

in the same boat as you need some springs, but want the lowest possible.
Had P1 in my golf which made a different but wanted abit more, but the ride was nice and handling

How much money do you have to spend on suspension?

The cheapest option would be just springs. But this isn't a great choice, as it involves keeping the standard shocks which aren't designed to be used with lowered springs.

The next option is lowering springs and uprated, matched shocks that are designed to work in this sort of a setup.

Both those options will give you a fixed drop. By that I mean the springs will lower, say, 30mm. Do bear in mind that the 30mm drop is based on a 'normal' Leon and not a Cupra or Cupra R, so if you have either of those the drop will be less as your car already sits lower than a 'normal' Leon.

The next option is coilovers. These vary a lot in price, but you get what you pay for. The cheapest kits I wouldn't personally bother with as while they may lower your car, the quality of construction and the quality of the ride and handling after may end up being worse than the OE setup. But the better kits will be worth looking at.
With coilovers you can chose the ride height and, with some, also adjust the damping / rebound of the kit, depending on which options you have on that kit.

All depends on budget though really :)

i was to be honest looking at springs but depending on the cost of coilovers they may be considered the down side is it will just delay my remap for a month or so. i see your point though most definately. do you think i would get away with a 30mm drop on springs if i went for them...? thanks

30mm drop, regardless of how you achieve that, will be fine. As said though, bear in mind the Cupra sits lower than other Leons so the actual drop might be closer to 20-25mm. That's still a reasonable drop though, enough to reduce the gap between the arches and tyres :)

I had some P1 springs on my golf TDi, so what do you think of the P! coil overs?

P1? Do you mean PI?

If so, I had PI springs on my Focus and they were OK, but a fairly basic way of dropping the car. They had little finesse about them, they just made it lower.

Looks smart. As I said, I had them on a Focus and they were a fairly basic spring (i.e. not progressive at all) but they did the job.

Had 17 before and the drop was more.

so my leon im guna start hunting down for some coilys, cant afford FK as they abit out of my bugget.
get a branded make. keep you guys posted

i think i might just go with lowering springs to be fair im going to pop into a proper wheels place round here in the next day or two see if im going to get any problems if i lower it ie wheels rubbing inside the arches or anything.

Golf looks smart mate!

I think a fairly straight forward 30mm drop will be enough to reduce the gap between the arches and the tyres. You don't need a huge drop there, just enough to tidy things up and remove the stilt-like, 4x4 look.

I agree. 30-40 mm. Looks cracking tho mate. Is the handeling still good?

I think whats been outline above is correct, from the sounds of it, springs should be fine mate, stick to a good name of spring and your be fine, Eibach etc...

I have 19"s on Eibach coilovers and thats as pretty low as you can get...
