If your reasonably handy with tools its about 20 mins a side.

Three bolts hold ball joint to wishbone

One pinch bolt holds ball joint to strut.

As your going to have to do the tracking I would look at all other bushes on the suspension and then you only need to do the tracking once.

1. front wishbone rear bushes - change to cupra bushes
2. front wishbone front bushes - change to new oem or powerflex ones

the knocking you could hear over most bumps, after replacing the ball joint the knocking stopped :) was just kinda a big clunk as soon as you hit the bump

Sounds exactly like mine , my ball joint is split and leaking grease and clunks when you hit a bump, Did you remove then hub then remove the ball joint or did you just disconnect the drive shaft and wishbone from the ball joint ?

didn't even need to disconnect the drive shaft, just 3 bolts holding it on the the wishbone undo these and move the wishbone down and then removed the last bolt connecting it to the car, just make you you have some penetration fluid :) quite an easy job now I know what I'm doin
