Low revs

hi,
i have a seat ibiza mk2 1.4i 1995-96 and have been having problems with low rev's when approching junctions and idlein posistions i have changed my faulty tempature gauge but still the revs are low when changing gear to first or second coming to a stop the rev's dip to 500-600 sometimes and stalls or goes to stall anyone think they can help IN SIMPLE TERMS

i was going to get a new distributor cap and carb cleaner but i need to know what throttle body is and what looks like cheers

The throttle body on your car is under the air filter, take the airfilter off and under it you will see what looks like a metal cylinder with a metal flap half way down, either spray some carb cleaner down it while getting some one to rev the engine or take the unit off completely you should be able to see 4 allen bolts holding it on to the engine jus undo those, disconnect the cable from the top and give it a good clean with a tooth brush and some carb cleaner or petrol etc and wipe the excess off with a rag until it looks clean with no black deposits but remeber to clean the top and bottom. Really is not that hard i did mine a couple of weeks back only took about half an hour and makes the car run alot better, hope this helps

hi again,looks like the problem was throttle body was dirty i gave it a quick spray before going to shops and revs are alot higher i will give it go going over in next couple of days, also can anyone tell me if i can spray in the hose that connects from air filter box to bottom of throttle bodyu i think it is i had to take this pipe of to remove air filter box

I think that air filter duct going from the air filter box to the throttle body will have a maf sensor in there which can be damaged by spraying, so dont go near that one. Should be fine to do the throttle body only.
