Ive just had the report back from a '04 LCR Im trying to buy. The engineer has reported low oil and what appears to be an oil leak on the underside of the engine on the right hand side. Do these cars burn oil and Im wondering whether it could be oil left there from the last oil change..?

Any help appreciated.

I dont have the LCR but I have the cupra and mine does not burn much oil at all, if it is then there could be a leak somewhere?

Yep I reckon so - does anyone know if the oil filter is on the right hand side of the engine block? Thats where there appears to be oil?

should be the same as the cupra, towards the the front, center.
you will see it when you look under the bonnet you will see it towards thre front, if under the car you will need to remove the small engine cover, normally best to get at it from under the car.

Hmmm - well the leak is on the right hand side of the engine block - so I doubt its that.....

LCR's DO burn oil. SEAT claim that it uses quite a lot per 1000miles.

The oil filter is front centre behind rad and air con

How long ago did it have a oil change? I know when I did mine and changed the oil filter it dripped for a little while as oil splurted out and continued to drip, its now o.k.

if its not leaking from the sump plug or oil filter then does not sound good.

* between oil changes I rarely have to top up with oil, surely that must be a good sign as opposed to burning oil.

Isn't the sump plug on the RHS? From what i've read before it's fairly easy to damage the sump threads.

Wouldnt the oil just end up on the floor then though rather than around the engine block?

You said the report said underside of the block not around it? where does it actually say? The oil would drip onto the sump/engine guard then onto the floor.

Also does the rhs refer to looking at the engine from the front or from the back?

Since found out the oil is coming out around the pulley's end of the block and in fact around there. Doesnt sound good to me.
