As per title was coming home the otherday and noticed that it was overheating a little and when i stoped and got out the fan had cut in.... last night i was driving and it started to mist up so i turned the heaters on only to find there was only cold are coming out :( checked the water tank and she was empty, ive topped her up and over a 6 mile journey she had lost a far bit of water again :(, now ive been told this could be the heating mechanism? it also seems to mist up very quickly, if it is the heating mechanism how hard and how much are they to replace, and are there any other commen things that i could check? any comments welcome cheers.

David.

Check your oil...... is there a load of white sludge under the oil cap..??

You could get a compression tester and test the compression of your cylinders... you can get them from motor factors for about £15.

Had those exact problems on my old golf, checked the heating system and found nothing, in the end it was the head gasket. I'd definitely look into that now if I were you to avoid even more time and expense further down the road.
