Losing Power/Revs at 5000 rpm!

Evening,

Just after some advice really. I bought my Cupra R just over a year ago now (ex-demo) from Listers Coventry. Its was already remapped by Revo, and was told it was running at about 275 bhp.

This is the second Cupra R I've had now, previous one was running at 265 bhp on the 210 engine and actually felt like it had a shed load more power than my current one.

So I decide last weekend to have it on the rolling road (and to have a Supersprint full system put on) to see if little Mr salesman was telling the truth.

I took a drive down to Stealth Racing, had the exhaust fitted, then got it on the rolling road. 30 minutes or so later I was told the good news........ 252 bhp!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry can you repeat that..... 252 bhp! Not a happy chap! Vince at Stealth said you would of expected to see least 270 to 275. After looking at the graph, the car was running perfect from idle to 5000 rpm with a nice smooth line, then just went all jagged after that.

Obviously there is a problem there but Vince couldn't work out what caused it without have the car in for a day and looking into it further.

I have already spoken to Kevin at Revo he said its definatly not the software on the car and that if anyone can find out what the problem is it's Vince.

Also just to mention Seat didn't want to know and just blamed it on the remapping (even though the car was supplied remapped and still has just under 2 yrs warranty). So its booked into Stealth in a couple of weeks.

So just really wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar problem and could possibly offer some advice.

Thanks Ross
p.s. sorry to go on a bit and I will post some pics and other bits that I doing to the car very soon.

It could be ignition pull, you really need to find someone with vagcom too see whats happening in the cylinders.

Have you uprated your TIP yet? These are known to collapse at around 5000rpm and will restrict the amount of air getting into your turbo.

Another could be a boost leak, but its unlikely if performance is good upto 5000rpm. If you have vagcom, log requested vs actual for a good indication as to whether your having problems here.
Again MAF readings would also be helpful to know to at least rule that out.

Or perhaps maybe your dv is leaking?

I think you should probably get all these checked

Not all cars make the same amount of power when remapped. It could be nothing more than the dealer reading into sales and marketing crap and believing that a simple remap will see you at 275bhp alone. If the car has driven like this from day one and not changed for a year, I doubt there is any serious problem.

And to be honest, 250bhp from a remap alone is still good going. It could be nothing more than a good set of accurate rollers telling you the correct figure, not an inaccurate set giving you dreamland figures.

If the car drives well and you're happy with it, ignore the headline power figures as they give nothing other than bragging rights down the pub.

well i similer issue when you floor it, when the car hits 5000rpm it jams, plus you feel car boost spiking as it goes up the rev range!
My lmbda sensor was at fault replaced and that cured the car from jaming up in the rev range but then the N75 boost valve went. i replaced that and the was fine

BHP is a load of b@llocks anyway - it's the torque figure you should be concerned about, thats what you can feel when driving........

It's a little crazy of SEAT to sell you a car that they admit to being remapped and then tell you they don't want to know when you have issues. Sounds like they're trying to get out of any warranty claims to me.

Do you have anything that proves they sold it to you remapped?

Listers in the sh*te again.

Why is it Listers are always involved in these types of thread?
If they supplied it with a map then they should honour the warranty work knowing the car was not standard, after all did nt they advertise it as remapped?

I bought mine new from them last January ( did nt serch enough threads and too eager to buy!) and they offered to deliver it Revo installed, also Mr Customer our service manager is Revo friendly and it will not affect your warranty. I declined the offer and I m glad I did as I split two turbo intake pipes in the first two months which was a headache in itself.

Best of it was when I took it back they accused me of having it remapped hence it was my fault! So p*ssed off with the hassle and poor service I too took mine down to Vince at Stealth as I did nt trust them to sort the problem.
The problem was the fitment of the pipe at the turbo end. After I had paid and diagnosed the fault myself I took it back for them to fit a third pipe and it was done properly and the car has been on song ever since.

If you have a problem with the car you should kick off big style as you are still in warranty. They took your money, time to hold up thier end of the deal. Remap or not, if theres a fault they should look into it rather than you paying for it yourself.

Afternoon,

Sorry havent replied sooner, been at work. I have had my N75 valve / sensor replaced recently - couldnt tell you what type it is. Even after this she still didnt feel right!! If the car goes back into Seat with this fault it will now be the fourth time - and as of yet they still havent managed to get it right!!

I have had it it hooked up to Vag-Com twice now, once at my mates and once at Stealth - No fault found. This is why Vince at Stealth struggled to find why there was a jagged dip on the graph at 5000rpm.

The torque figure came out at 268 which I thought was pretty good? As mentioned in my post Kevin at Revo said there is definately not a problem with the software on the car as he remembers doing it for Seat originally.

I think it is just a case of handing over to Vince @ Stealth and seeing what he can come up with and hopefully sort out!! Cant really be bothered to argue with Seat - as they seem to have an answer for everything and wriggling their way out of paying for faults appears to be the only thing they can do properly!!

Proper Job

You may well be right to let Vince have a look at this deal as it needs specialist expertise, experience and pride in the service they are providing and you wont find any of these things at Listers!
Plus their rolling road equates to some monkey of a tech ragging the balls off your car up and down the bypass and returning it to you in a worse state than when you dropped it off.
Good luck with it mate.

Part the reason why i brought my Seat is cus Stealth is only 5 minutes down the road and there customer service is spot on. Ask if John there can take you out in his 1.8T corrado, is pretty scarey that car!

Oh my god!!! You guys have lost me?? I also have this problem but its from about 4000rpm. My car is great up till then but then its as if something has just give up on me? Ihad a few problems with my car now but i love the LC and just want it to run tip top. What is my best bet? Do i need a garage with a rolling road? All the talk about N75 valves and lmbda sensors is way over my head. Please can someone give me some advice for a novice?
