i know you can run these engines with out the 2ndry system but not sure if you need a aftermarket ecu to stop a fault code?!?

the black box if for fuel vappor i think, if you get rid of it i think it will be abit smelly

Its a carbon canister, I'm going to be loosing both my secndary air pump and carbon canister at some point. You may get fault codes, but there shouldnt be anything that cant be written out.

The carbon canister just filters vapours from the intake manifold and exhaust manifold, its nothing that can't be blocked off, just would like to know why it's for an electrical connector first.

Airpump from the airbox to the pump, pump to the block can all be scrapped easily. However where it goes into the block I presume it'll need a bung of some type.

Need to measure it, if you like, let me know when your next free and we'll do the N249 Bypass, junk the crap then give it a quick VAG Com scan to see what comes up.

Also will then be able to find out what parts we need to write out of the ECU.

Just unbolt it and chuck it all in the bin!

The carbon canister has a fuel tank breather, which you should leave in place or reroute, otherwise you'll need to leave the filler cap lose to not impload your tank!

I think bill has made an alternate carbon tank in place of original. i've been toying with the idea for some time now has anybody else remove the carbon tank completely before for a daily drive????

my carbon cannister fuel tank vent is long gone. in its position is an oil breather catch tank/drain.
also egr stuff has gone.

how did you get on with this?

Im going to remove my secondary air system soon but want too make sure i wont get any codes thrown up! what have you done about blanking off the head once you remove the valve thing that bolts to it?

Also how do i get rid of the breather filter that goes in the tip?

We removed it, but had technically difficulties whilst out. Lets just say in the very high revv's of 5th a loud valve exiting exhaust noise was heard... fortunatly it was just a boost pipe which had popped off.

I havent been over since to play, I know there was an N69 error which related to the cannister but we were tired after limping/pushing the car home so decided to look into it a bit more another weekend.

cool! ive had a look at it and you will need to make a plate to screw to the head where the valve is! apart from that im not sure if it will throw any codes or not!?
