I now have had my Leon MK2 TDI FR for 2-3 years and have enjoyed it. I have got it running at 220bhp and 330lbs of torque. I mainly bought this for doing a lot of miles around a 1000 a month.

Now I am single bloke again I have some extra cash and I am looking to maybe upgrade to a Cupra or other car which gives me more speed basically and Cupra seems to be the best around for speed and mpg from all the other petreol cars!

So I am looking to upgrade in terms of speed to a Cupra wont mind another diesel if its quicker than my FR at the moment and looking to spend upto 13k with no more than say 40k miles on the clock be it a Cupra or another car if you can give me some ideas in this price range of course.

Looking at the Cupra it seems to do around 34mpg which am willing to take the hit on anything less just wont be worth it. Diesel considered BMW or something if faster than my Leon FR of course without taking a big hit on car tax or insurance!

Anyway I would like people opinion on this and is it worth going for say a Cupra and even better opinion on people who have had a TDI FR and gone to a Cupra and vice versa.

I know that my TDI FR remapped to 220bhp and 330lbs of torque will be just as quick as a standard cupra will this be me right saying this?

If so ill know ill have to get the cupra remapped like my TDI FR to see more of a difference of course! Id be looking to get it remapped by ptorque so figures of around 300bhp and 300lbs of torque will not be out the question? And will I then see a noticeable difference between this and my MK2 TDI FR!

Looking at what cupras go for on autotrader ill be looking to get a 07,57, possibly 08 plate if am lucky with under 40k miles on the clock.

If am lucky for a 3 to 4 year old cupra what should I look out for in terms of cambelt water pump etc make sure the car has been mainted etc.

Also what extras should I be looking at to get if possible like the bluetooth or xenon lights? At the moment my TDI FR has 18" alloys sat nav display ipod under seat bluetooth etc.

Just after peoples thoughts and of what I am thinking is a worthy upgrade?

Apart from the remap any other mods I can do which wont hurt my bank balance to get the best out of the cupra?

Thanks for your time to read my thread guys!

Oh yes another thing how much does it cost these days to fill the cupra up? With my TDI FR it costs around 65 pounds for a full tank. Driving fast I get just over 400 miles to a tank. Take it easy and carefully around 500 or just over! But being winter not had 500 for a few months!

Now with the cupra it will be mainly on the motorway in peak hour driving so no more than crusing 60-70mph so would I be looking to reach 300 from a tank full from the cupra?

I suppose I could if I sell private get around 10k possible from my TDI FR with 40k on clock full service history all stamped up with reciepts! Cambelt changed last week, and major service being done next week!

In excellent condition just few marks on the alloys! Leon TDI FR MK2 56 plate with all the extras!

If you drive sensible in cupra you get 34 but I don't think I ever get that more like top 20's I bought my cupra k1 for 13k 08 plate with 24k on clock just take time looking!! I would go cupra all the way would be quicker stock that your mapped fr! It's easy to get cupra to 300 bhp that's just a stage 1 revo remap there!! It cost me £65 for full tank ! But tbh if you doing massive miles and want quick diesel BMW are out the picture cost too much !!tax price crazy ! It only be like the 335 d which cost fortune and still shifts some!!! Hope this helps

i paid 13.3 k for my cupra on a 07 plate with 21k on the clock with a few extra factory options.

if your goign to be doing heavy milage i wouldnt change personally. i put £30 a week into mine and i get back about 130 miles but this is all town driving. if i use it on a run i can get 34- 35driving very steady without cruise control. if im driving normally its closer to 28 - 29. you should jsut get 300 miles from a tank if driving steady.

mines totally standard but will hopefully be getting it remapped this year come better weather. just still trying to work out if its worth the extra costs

fascianting dilema , my girlfreind had the fr diesel and even that instandard form on real world driving their wasnt a lot in it between that and my standard cupra , i used to drive her car a lot and i was pleasently suprised.
we went to santa pod and we had a couple of runs against each other and its only when the cupra stretched its legs it would get past and stay past iirc there was about 2 seconds different over the 1/4 mile.

but you are not comparing eggs to eggs here , i think if you went for a test drive today in a standard cupra you will be dissapointed compared to your mapped fr.
but saying that a mpped cupra is something else all together :)

you said you do a lot of miles iirc 1k a month? well i do 18k a year in my cupra lol

on a motorway expect aroud 34 mpg , if you get more you are doing very well , around town low to mid 20's will be about right.
and yes 300 from a tank is possible , i find if you stick under the 3,000 rpm in 6th on motorways than thats the best performance v economy band to be.
a cupra from empty is about 68 quid on v power (price depending)

if you are going to map and mod away then its the best price v mod v bhp car on the market , especially at your price range.
im actually swapping to a 123d coupe , performance and economy :D
good luck mate.

i did the change from TDI to cupra, you wont be disappointed with the cupra especially when its mapped.Only bad thing is the MPG in the Derv i was seeing 42-43mpg round town and only 24-26mpg in the cupra.

All i'll say is - petrol/diesel costs are only going to go up so when you find a partner again, don't look back and regret this decision. Personally I wouldn't say its worth changing from an FR to a cupra especially as you are doing miles. I have just done the opposite - moved from an LCR to a 1.9tdi purely due to costs.

BUT the cupra is a damn fine car.....

Just went from a mapped FR to a Cupra within the last two weeks and i have to say i am enjoying the Cupra more.My first impressions were that my FR was faster but when i got used to driving a petrol again i soon found out that it is not.The Cupra is a smoother drive and comes alive in the higher rev range unlike the diesel and if you remap you will gain between 60-70 bhp :p if you go down that route.
For the fuel consumption i nearly ran it dry the other day and it cost me £70 to fill her up using V-Power.On a recent trip to Newcastle on A roads trying to stick to 60mph i got 32.5 MPG, on the way home i went a different route which let me travel a little faster and i found i only dropped 2-3 MPG and the smile factor was lots better :D .My first tank full was a mix of town driving and A roads which returned me 330 miles to a tank so i am quite happy with that but if i was worried about consumption i would not have bought a Cupra. What ever you buy best of luck.
