Guys... I am a little confused now.

I have read several posts about the best products to use and the 2 bucket method of washing your car, but is there any specific products that are better for red?

I am wanting to buy a whole new kit as I have obviously been washing the car wrong, Dare I say it...... With a sponge!!!!:banned:

I think I know what stuff I need to wash it but I am not sure what I need to Wax (By hand).

Could someone please let me know if anything is better for red than others and also what stuff I will need for applying and polishing.

Oh and is there anything you can recommend for protecting the cloth seats.

Thanks

For red I highly reccomend the clearkote combo of Vanilla Moose wax topped with Carnauba Moose wax. You can slip in the yellow wax in between for even more gloss. This will leave the wettest look.

For a shiner more durabble finish, I would go with the Carlack Twins (Systematic Care and Long Life Sealant) topped with a wax of choice.
The All In one is fantastic for cleaning the paint and maintining teh fiish. The Glaze adds extra depth and loads of protection. Then if you just want to add a little extra to the finish try something like P21s or Victoria concours wax for bags of gloss.

You'll then just need some applicators and microfibres for removal.

Seats 303 fabric guard ;)

Cheers Tim

Thanks Tim,

I will give them a whirl I think.

I was thinking about the AG stuff initially.

Hi mate,

Don't know if this will help ya out....My Leon

Did mine over the weekend (Flash Red LC as you can see:funk: ) and think it looks pretty good!

All I use is a single bucket with Meguiars NXT Generation car wash (A little bit more than the recomended amount) washing small sections at a time. Once all is done, go over it with several MF cloths. The bumper was looking dull, so all I did for that was some T-CUT and Autoglym super resin polish! Works a treat :)

If not a sponge what should be used to wast the car?

to wash the car, i use:
1 lambs wool wash mit
2 microfibre wash mits.
1 micro fibre mit used to clean 1/4 of the car below the half way point (if that makes sence)
the 2nd one is to wash the last and lowest 1/4 of the car.

keep all seperate and dont mix them up or you take dirt from lower half up on to the roof :(

Like Tim says, Carlack (or Klasse as its also known) twins work great on RED, topped off with a few layers of P21S carnuaba wax really bring it out

Not a seat, but it give you an idea of how the combination of the above works on Red, & the finish you can get quite easy.

Do you notice that much of a difference with them and not a sponge??

I use a sponge then shammy (sorry about SP) to get majority of water off then MF for final dry

I haven't properly done my LCR yet, but the other week I gave it a wash and a quick coat of meguiars NXT polish - it was the first time I'd used the NXT (had it sat in the garage with allsorts of other products for ages!) and it went on very easily, and really bought the red up beautifully... pity that it's now ready for another good clean!

yes i have noticed that there is very little damage being doen to the paint work now. the paint feels much better to touch now and is alot easier to keep clean :)

i dont us a shammy(SP) as it rubbs small particles of dirt in to the paint.
i use a water blade now to remove most of the water then MF anything i have missed, and the results are much more pleasing

Adam, launch the water blade in the bin. It only needs a tiny piece of dirt or grit to be sat on the paint or blade and you'll regret it!

Get rid of the chamois leather too, get yourselves a decent waffle weave drying towel. Cobra Super Guzzler from Motorgeek, or Sonus Der Wunder are a popular alternative.

I use a water blade. But I run my (clean) fingers down the blade after every "scrape" of water. The only time I ever caused a mild scratch on the paint was when I forgot to run it clean with my fingers :)

Thing is with the mitt, it wont hold as much as a sponge. Although the mitt is gentler, I still prefer the sponge.

use 2 buckets, one filled with hot/warm water and shampoo the other just hot/warm water.

use the washmit to clean about a 2sq foot area on the car then rinse off in the one without shampoo, re dunk mit in to shampoo water and repeat.

this keeps dirt on the mit to a minimum and keeps dirt from the car in the bucket with clean water and little to no dirt in the bucket containing the shampoo

Originally tried this, but wasn't happy with the results. Could be down to crappy mitts I suppose, but never mind. I'm happy with the results I get

I used a mitt for the first time yesterday and I have to say I thought it did hold alot of water. Also the drying towel was excellent. I couldn't believe just how much water it held and how well it dried the car compared to a synthetic shammy.

Cheers Guys

it it really necessary to put a few layers on to achieve a good finish. seems like too much hard work to me. can you put extra gloss on after the wax, or before?

MF cloths are great...Only thing you've got to be careful of now is getting the car dryed before the water drys on and leaves horrible water marks!
