Look on your data sticker in the boot of the car for the code QG2, this means "no possibility of activating service interval prolongation". If you got this then obviously you cant change the servicing.
Another possible code you might have are QG0 "without service prolongation".
The third option is QG1, I think this means the car is already set to variable servicing (don't quote me on that) so this option should never appear on a SEAT

It might be worth asking a VW/Audi or Skoda dealer exactly what the codes mean, but i would guess QG0 means you could change it to variable servicing? You would need a dealer to reprogram the car to variable servicing (or possibly someone with VAGCOM?)

I've got a QG1 in my 2000 Leon.

But that doesn't help - you can change for variable to fixed intervals, but VAG do not permit you to change back. So once you have started on the fixed interval program you are stuck with it.

I have just come across a 2000 Toledo also with QG1 "service interval prolongation" so thats shot my theory in the foot! I wonder if some early cars were set to variable servicing? Or maybe cars were switched to fixed servicing at PDi before sale?

Ok a bit more info, I have been talking to a friend working at VWG maintenance. Basically any car that is on fixed servicing cannot be changed to variable servicing per se. But you can still put the long life oil in and run a longer servicing interval. This does bring up 2 problems, first the car wont tell you when the next service is due since it still thinks its on fixed service schedule (so you will have to guess) and second it will invalidate your warranty if it is still valid.

SEAT's that came from the factory with QG1 were a mistake, they are still on fixed servicing. If a car is changed from variable to fixed it cannot be changed back, as Simon said. Though that does beg the question as to what the difference is between QG0 and QG2
