Anyone know if this is possible? So I can defrost the car without it getting knicked or needing me and the lil one to sit inside it waiting in the cold....
Have vcds if that can be used somehow?
Ta muchly.

Just remove the cover for the lock in the drivers door and lock it manually with the key.
The cover is the rearmost part of the handle that does not move when opening the door.

Cheers, was hoping there would be a trick to getting it working remotely off of the spare fob

Most insurance companies exclude theft of vehicles if the keys are left in the car. This is the exclusion in my insurance policy;

We will not pay for loss or damage arising from theft while:
(a) the ignition keys of your vehicle have been left in or on your vehicle.
(b) your vehicle has been left unattended with the engine running.

It doesn’t say the exclusion doesn’t apply if the car’s locked with the keys in, so if you’re thinking of doing as you’ve suggested, it would be worth checking your insurer’s stance on whether or not they would cover theft of your car if was locked with the engine running.

I'm not preaching but it's illegal to leave the car running without you being in it so by extension I doubt any insurance company would pay out if it got stolen

They could smash the side window and climb in and drive off if you leave the engine running as the immobiliser is de-activated

That’s what I was thinking after I’d posted. If I was the OP, I’d clear/defrost the outside of the windows with a scraper and proprietary de-icer rather than leaving it locked with the engine running to self-defrost. Less convenient this way? IMO not really, and certainly not as inconvenient as it would be if the OP’s car was stolen and their insurer refused to pay out

That's not completely correct. Its perfect legal to do it if the car is off the public road i.e. on your driveway.

I imagine it would not be covered if it was stolen with the keys as you could never prove it was locked with the spare set.

It's also preferable to get the car on the move sooner rather than later. Idling the engine from a really cold start isn't the best for it.
