Limp mode.

First of all i have searched and read almost all 20 pages on this! Ive got a LC which has recently been re mapped and new dump valve. Alot of you seem to think that limp mode is caused by the MAF or other sensors but since mine has only started doin it since the re map do you think there could be somethin in the map that the car dont like? I dont have vag com i was hopin that someone could give me some advice befor ive gotta start spending money on it again!

I know your gonna hat eme for saying this but you need to ask someone nicely to Vagcom it for you... hopefully it'll show you why etc etc

Limp can be related to a few things so its best to get it Diagnostic checked...

Vagcom can tell you if your MAF is performing correctly etc..

ive recently had this problem, and it was the maf. have you tried disconecting your battery? this may clear it. but if it is the mayf it will come bask on after about 20miles or so

It rights its self if i turn the car off and re start it again, its back on full power then! Are the MAF expensive?

i think there about £140+vat. i was lucky cos i have a mate that works for seat so managed to get it fitted for £60!

My LCR went into limp mode and then immediately back to normal if I stopped and restarted the engine. It didn't happen all the time though, usually after about 20 miles or so and then not every day! It turned out to be a split hose. I am not sure which one as it was done under warranty, the car was brand new.
Maybe worth checking hoses for leaks, though it took the garage 3 attempts so it couldn't have been that obvious.

Ok so ive just been for a diagnostic on my car and it came back with error code 17705 and P1297, not sure weather the second means anythin thou. It also said turbo valve/throtle pressure loss. Chap at the garage said it could be a split hose. Does all this sound about rite and is it a easy fix?

I dont remember what codes were coming up on mine but it sounds like the symptoms are similar. It took them ages to find the hose with the split but once they had done so it was fixed no trouble

Look for leaking hoses or splits in pipes.
The code also suggests that the N249 may be at fault.

It may be worth cheching the vacume pipe attached to the top of your dumpvalve hasnt split. Also take off the dumpvalve and make sure it's operating correctly.

If it's a piston type push the piston up from the bottom and just make sure it's moving.

Yes it is (touches wood...), it's running perfectly. My car logged the same code and was fairly intermittent too, in as much as it wouldn't fail every time and would sometimes fail part of the way into a journey. One time it even came back to life after failing!

You can try unplugging the MAF and going for a drive. Without the MAF the ECU defaults to default values, so if your car drives perfectly like that then you know the problem. HOWEVER - I'm not sure if this still stands with remapped cars so hopefully somebody will confirm?

Mine died on me sunday so i stoped the car and re started it and it was fine till this mornin when it had no life in it again. Comin back home from work and the garage its pulled great as if there is nothin wrong.

If only they would break and STAY broken when you actually get to the garage they would be able to figure out what the problem was MUCH more easily!

Thats very true. looks like ill have to get it booked in somewhere and get it sorted. My 1.1 fiesta would give the leon a good race in limp mode!!!!

Funny you should say that, as when I took mine to JKM to be looked at it did die on the way down there, so I thought 'great' they have something to work with. But by the time I got there, turned the engine off, it sat for a bit and they took it out for a drive it started working again!
