Lights not working properly?

Bit of an odd one. Had a search but not had any luck really.

My brother told me that my left rear light wasn't working, but when i brake all the lights work fine. So i just thought that one of the filaments had gone (double filament bulb) and a new bulb would solve the problem. It did not.

But now my left front (from looking at it) isn't working properly. Both sidelights will come on, but when i put it on mainbeam, only the right light gets brighter, the other stays on sidelight.

Possibly a dodgy earth or something? Any help would be appreciated.

It's a mk1 leon.

Yet to try a replacement headlight bulb as that's only just started playing up last night, where as the rear light has been out for a few days now.

Is it likely to be the fuses if only one light is out?

Checked all the connections, if a wire is shorting then it will keep blowing the bulb, also check the connections for corrosion as that normally causes problems.

Well the front bulb was just a coincidence it seems, replaced the bulb today and that was all it was, a blown bulb. The back however has no joy.

Tried cleaning up the contacts a bit with no luck. Then i tried unplugging the plastic bit that the two bulbs (indicator and stop light) are held in and switching them on to the other side. Both sides light up, but the stop lights are constantly on brightest, as if i was braking, but without the brake pedal down. So the bulb is fine, is it likely to be the plastic part that the bulbs are held in?

Or wiring of some kind?

Any help would be appreciated

Sorry to sound stupid, but where exactly can i find the brake light switch?

I'll give this a try when i get back home from uni this weekend.

Is it likely to be the case though?

The rear lights are only on as if the brakes are on when the two bulb holders that the wired connects to are switched over, so i'm thinking it's just because of the wiring with them being the other way round?

When they're in the right places i don't have that problem at all, the one rear light that does work comes on at the brightness it should be, and when i brake all brake lights illuminate.

Neither the original bulb or the replacement bulb has blown though. They work fine in the other side.

I guess it has to be something to do with the wiring, or the holder, i might try and use the one out of my brothers to eliminate it being the holder.

My holder had bent, just on the one bulb. If yours is same then the bulb might not be connecting at all.
Watch it when they do light up... they get instantly hot!

I'll give it all a look over this weekend, and try my brothers holder too. Hopefully it's the holder and not the wiring as that'll be a nightmare to sort out!

Thanks for all the help so far =]

Well it turns out the contacts were a bit messed up and after 3 blown bulbs and a lot of cleaning and wire wooling, all is now well! Thanks for the help =]
