Lightened Flywheel

I've got a ABF flywheel ready to go on my car with the SPEC Stage 3 clutch, now i was all set on getting it lightened and skimmed as the flywheel is second hand.

My question is, would it be worth doing and whats the weight difference of the ABF single mass to the standard ibiza dual mass? IIRC standard ABF/G60 is 22lbs which will go down to ~14lbs.

Would i be sacrificing low end torque/higher power band for a quicker revving engine? Or am i being stupid?

Answers on a postcard.

Oh yeah, will be GT28RS eliminator with all the toys including a diff.

Thats the problem Phil, too light, and you may end up losing all bottom end torque, for top end the turbo will be able to do the work, so i'd say lightening it may not be the best bet in this case.

it wont effect engine torque, but engine response on revving.
its side effect is more idle gear chatter

So not really that much adverse effect then bill?

I'm probably just thinkin about it for nothing.

Any idea what the standard flywheel weighs tho?

Its at least the 22lb level..
the chunk removed is the phat rear section, which is both heavy and on the outside face regards to rotational mass...

the gearbox will sound more rattly when going this way, but there is no function negative side I've experienced since doing this way back in 2002.

The ABF flywheel doesnt have that massive flat lump on the back bill, its got like a donut shape with a concave middle section. The ones i've seen just machine down the mass at the back.

Hotgolf from ClubGti is doing mine hes also got a ABF one done which i'm gonna see tomorrow to compare. I'll see if i can get some pics if anyone is interested.
