Blown as in how? Siezed? rod through the block? Dropped a valve?

Replaced engine at 32k

Hi,

I had a small oil leak, looked at 3 times by main stealer  , which suddenly developed into a large oil leak which luckily got caught in time. Would have seized if I hadn't stopped asap.
Engine was replaced complete under warranty no fuss whatever.

Mechanic at main stealer let me look at engine and showed me stress crack in block running from sump bolt upwards into gear box area.
Looked like overtightening of sump bolt may have caused problem but was officially put down as poor casting of block.

Not sure if this helps or not but you may want to look at this area as a start.

Good luck.

Leon towed into Kings - Portsmouth on Monday 24th April

Kings eventual carried out diagnosis on Tuesday 2nd May

Period given for rectification - Sat 13th May

Is this good Customer Service? = 20 days (three weeks)

Still no report on why engine blow, Kings talking with Seat UK

No contact from Seat UK

Is this good Customer Service, because Mr Gary Wells - Head of Aftersales, SEAT UK needs to contact me.

Kings of Portsmouth refuses to commence any work until 50% of £3k is paid up front.

Apart from duff engine, no written diagnosis from Kings yet.

SEAT UK has refused to discuss VW/SEAT 1.8cc engine blowing up at 60k
SEAT UK want duff engine to lose the evidence of poor manufacturing quality etc.
I can only assume that every other member has receive excellent customer service and i'm the only one to kicked whilst down.
Otherwise beware, aftersales service is of utmost importance to any owner of a SEAT!

Kings of Portsmouth were my main dealer, purchased LC second hand from them, and had it serviced regular by them.

As my previous post they eventually accepted a faulty engine under the warranty after 3 visits with oil leak and replaced the engine with only 32k on the clock. Engine was to be wisked away but mechanic let me have a sneaky look first.

Took SEAT two weeks to diagnose, accept responsibility and replace engine, had to piddle about in a 1.0 litre Arosa, zoom zoom. :headhurt:
No probs since.

Is yours an early engine, 60k for the cambelt change, or an AUQ unit? Mine was one of the first AUQ engines.

If they are going to charge 3k for a replacement I would want to see evidence of or reason for failure. 60k is nothing for a modern engine and unless you have seriously abused it and not serviced it I would want some compensation from SEAT.
You say that engine blew at 60k so I would push SEAT under the warranty unless its a low mileage early car well outside the three year warranty period.

Good luck.

SEAT UK operate a 'Goodwill Department' who have rejected a request from the Main Dealership for any goodwill payment towards the rectification cost of £3.2k

The reason is because the age of the car is too far outside the warranty period!

18 months outside?

Goodwill Dept refuse to stipulate the period outside the warranty they are prepared to operate within?

No 3 cylinder con rod broke up!
Beware, no warranty very little support from SEAT uk.........60k full main dealer serviced 2001 (Aug) 20v 1.8cc engine does say much for the reliability or assembly quality of the VW/AUDI/SEAT engine/

I would be interested in any member who has dealt with SEAT - Goodwill
I would be interested in any member who has had a new engine and what warranty came with it or did it have special oil for the 1st 500 miles etc

Sorry to hear you are having no joy from SEAT :(

When they replaced my engine I was told to stick to service intervals etc. from original engine. Thought this was a bit odd but mechanic friend agreed this was fairly normal procedure otherwise it stuffs up their records for warranty purposes.

I had hoped 60k warranty would be applied to new engine but not the case.

I had oil changed anyway after about 600 miles just to be safe.

Hope it hasn't put you off car & hope all goes well with new engine.
