Leon TDI 150 problem

Hello. I am new to this site and am hoping for some advice. I have a Leon 55 plate tdi fr 150. love it to bits but now the engine light has come on. Took it to a garage who diagnosed it and stated it needs 4 new glow plugs and a new wiring harness cost will be £300.00.
Seems steep to me for that amount of work. Is this something I could do myself and does anyone have pictures/ diagrams or part numbers etc: many thanks. mike.

Although I can't help you with your problem, I'd definitely explore other avenues before parting with that much dosh.

My climate control wasn't working, blowing hot air all the time and Seat had a look and said it was a sensor problem and would take 3 hours to fix etc... so I went home had a good look and found the fuse had gone, it's been great ever since. So no faith in the dealers myself.

It could be the brake light switch problem that seems to affect a lot of people on here, simple fix apparently. Maybe that's throwing up the warning light.

All 4 glow plugs and a harness?

How do they know all 4 glow plugs are knackered if the harness is buggered.

I think glynnd has changed the harness, i'm sure he will be along shortly to confirm or deny.

And it was struggling to start last week when it was very cold?? Positive its the plugs?

It might be worth getting hold of someone local with Vagcom.

Don't slate me but it might be worth a reset.

The problem with the harness is intermittent and may actually be working when cold!
The light comes on after so many starts when there is a fault.

= whatever the problem is don't take it to the dealers.

To say dealers don't even have mechanics on-site and still charge £70/hour is a joke. £70/hour fitters more like!

I also find they do half a job, or do it slowly but it always looks like its a rushed job. Strange that!

Thanks for the replies everyone. The car has now done 74k so the glow plugs could do with changing. As you mentioned Glynnd what is the part number for the harness. Also does anyone know were I can download a sharware version on vag-com just got the cable off a mate.

Nice one cheers Chris that will stop me paying the dealers prices. Had the engine cover off today and disconnected the glow plug hatness. Who knows what size spanner you need to release the big nut on the glow plug itself. Mike

My light has come back on and vagcom says intermittent glow plug 4.
Thats after fitting the new harness 3 months ago
the harness part number is 1jo973824
The intermittent code my imply that the control module is at fault.
I am fed up with mine now.

Got that thanks pal. is it common for them to come on this much seems to be quite alot. dont suppose you know where to locate the glow plugs. Took the engine cover off and could see the harness wires but not the thin pencil like glow plugs?

My light has been off and on like you would not believe
Pull the harness away from the glow plugs which are hidden under the harness
