Sorry guys, last question I hope... where do you lot put your iPod?

I'm tempted by either the bit under the ash tray (by where you plug the VAG COM in) or the bit under the steering column but not sure if that's ideal as it'd probably move about a lot... also tempted by the glove compartment so it's out of the way, but that's kinda awkward too.

Shame the ashtray isn't a bit bigger :D

Well I have just purchased the Alpine iDA-X100 which controls the ipod as you would use it in your hand. So once plugged in everything is controlled by the head unit and there's no need to have the ipod accessible while driving.
So when I put it in, the ipod is gonna go in the glovebox, and will get rid of the cd changer. I thought about putting it under the ash tray, but i think i'm gonna have my revo serial port switch there when i get my remap done.
What HU do you/will you have? Will you need to pick up and play with the ipod once connected?

Cheers Boomheauer - think the glovebox is the best place for it!

I'm getting the Pioneer DEH-700BT which as far as I know lets you control everything from the head unit anyways, so won't need direct control.

To the guy who used the FM transmitter on their Nokia - how did it work out? I'm really tempted if I'm honest. Still haven't received that Pioneer player and not sure it's worth paying £250+ for it over the standard stereo, especially when you include the hassle of keep having to take the radio out and store the faceplate somewhere.

:(

pioneer deh700bt cost me 199 from newcaraudiohifi (i think)

I used a belkin transmitter, and trust me.....its rubbish
in fact, the bluetooth connection on the pioneer is better sound quality that direct cable....which is wierd as it should be other way around (decent cable too)

I'm loving the stereo! seriously, get one.

Hmm, may well get one anyway then, cheers... just cancelled my order anyway, as it's been over two weeks now and I don't fancy waiting much longer :(

Lol! The FM Transmitter is indeed awful, the sound quality isn't too bad, but it's so fiddly, screw that.

I've kept my order with Caraudiodirect - apparently it'll be with me sometime next week, but I've been told that for the past couple of weeks too...

Hate, hate, hate this stupid head unit :(

Just seems awful to me - absolutely rubbish interface, broken and irritating bluetooth support, and horrible, horrible controls.

No printed manual either. I never use manuals so will admit they're sometimes a bit of a waste, but on something with an interface as **** as this, I can't believe they didn't throw a manual into the box.

It cost £265, but I'm not exaggerating when I say my old (original Seat) stereo was a lot better ;_;

£200, then I bottled it and paid £62 to get it fitted (figured the tools etc would of cost me £30 or so, so it was worth another £30 to get it fitted and have the USB cable ran through to the glovebox etc)

Yeah, would of been more than happy to of gave you some money to do it, I dunno... I know I should of tried it myself, but after looking around at the stuff I'd need to buy, the price wasn't actually *that* much to get it fitted so just went with that.

In fact, pm me your PayPal address and I'll throw some money your way for a few beers anyway, you've given me loads of great advice in this thread and I really appreciate it, cheers dude.

@ m.r. davis - Nokia N78, uses similar software to the N96 if that helps.

It's flakey at the best of times, but it does pair if I do it manually, by going to the Telephone/BT Audio setting and manually connecting, however, if I don't do this my phone just beeps constantly saying "Disconnected" and the head unit does naff all. It occasionally won't connect either, I dunno if it's the phone or the head unit to be honest.

I'm not bothered at all about the BT Audio since that's only slightly less rubbish than the FM transmitter built into my phone (lol), but I managed to get on the hands free last night and it seemed really good (if not overly bassy through the speakers!) - so it'd be nice to have that on there anyways.

Really dumb question, how do you answer the phone on it? Someone called me, I pressed the phone button on the far left and it disconnected the call, lol

Oh! Yeah I went for the Pioneer :D Downloaded an update for my N78 and it's been working a treat ever since, a few niggles (like with anything I guess) but overall I'm really happy with it, thanks Lee :D
