Hey I'm new to this don't know if this is the right place to post, but basically I'm 17 and can't afford insurance on a Leon cupra so am buying a mk1 standard Leon, if I buy cupra body kit such as the front bumper & back bumper will this fit onto a standard mk1 Leon 1.6? Cheers in advance

I wouldn't drive if I had to pay that, not being funny but I can't wait till they move the driving age up to 21, it would stop a hell lot of accidents. Plus all the we wannabe boy racers flying around, it's so funny now I just laugh at them when they try race me. Get yourself a 1.0 litre for a few years then your insurance will get cheeper, worse thing to do is have a crash when you first pass as it fecks you up till ur 21-26, my insurance is due for renewal soon think it will be £460 a year.

That is ridiculous. My first year insurance was £1200 on a 1.4 and I thought that was expensive 3 years ago but I'm only paying £550 now on my LC. If you go down the Cupra kit route don't forget skirts, spoiler, wheels and exhaust otherwise it won't look like a Cupra. Also, I'm pretty sure the Cupra is lower than the standard Leons? Someone correct me if I'm wrong :)

Also be careful that if you're declaring all your mods that it's worth it, black box companies don't normally allow modifications and if they aren't declared and you crash, your insurance will be void and you'll struggle to get insured for a long time.

Yeh there lower mate, he's gonna have to change a lot of things to get it looking like one, I'd know straight away if someone's just made one up from a 1.6, and your right about the box, they won't want any boy racer mods on there cars, what's the point in making you car look aggressive if you can't drive it aggressive when you need to, black box says no lol

Thanks for clarifying! Thought so!

To be fair, with the right parts you would struggle to tell the difference in my eyes because without what I stated above, the Cupra is a standard Leon with a more powerful engine. Obviously with a harder look at interior and engine bay etc you'd tell straight off.

In my honest opinion, I wouldn't build a replica... It will probably end up costing about £1000 of done properly and that wouldn't even be with decent second hand parts. Before I struck gold and got a complete Cupra bumper for £70, I couldn't find an undamaged one for under £200 in decent condition and that's just the start of it. Add on £100 for rear bumper, £50-£100 for spoiler, £100 for skirts, £50-£100 for exhaust, £150+ for alloys. It starts to become a waste of money!

Back to original post , cupra bumpers will fit but , a cupra R front bumper will need the specific bumper guides as the R bumper is different

Before you do you'll need to check if your insurance will cover you for the modifications you're planning on making to the car, if you haven't already of course?

The last thing you'll want is to invalidate your insurance with none declared mods, then you'll be paying a hell of a lot more than £250 a month...

As said above though, any car can be made to look like a higher spec one, sometime it's as easy as adding a body kit, others require metal work.

A 1.6 to a LC will involve, wheels, bumpers, interior parts... if you were going for a LCR then it'll be a little more work.

Not sure how much lower the LC is to the standard cars, but a LCR is 10mm lower as standard over LC, so you would need to sort that out otherwise it'll look terrible, ending up spending more than your insurance premium in the first place.

Hey do you know if I were to buy a cupra spare and repairs I could use the springs on a mk1? Just swap everything over sort of thing? Cheers

Yeah if you buy a Cupra then you can swap everything over, but then you may just want to look at putting your engine into the Cupra?

Could save on re-spray of
Panels etc?

Out of interest have your insurance said if it'll effect your premium at all by adding everything?

Surely if he drops his lump into the Cupra it will have to be insured as a Cupra with a smaller engine because the registration will be that of a Cupra.
