Leon Fr 150 - Turbo Issues

Anyone had any turbo problems with a Leon FR150. oil starvation, boost pipe leaks etc?

Does anyone change their oil more frequently than 10k?

I find that if I accelerate from low speed in 3rd/4th gear my turbo sounds a little but rough (gritty) between 2000-3000rpm. It sounds fine any of the rest of the time. Does anyone else with a 150 FR find this, if not please give it a try and let me know. (you need the window down to hear it). My car has done 18k.

One other question, can the ECU detect loss of boost from the turbo, is there a boost sensor?

Would appreciate any comments, advice.

I cant say ive read about any specific problems effecting 150 turbos, known a few to go but then other turbos go too.

Some people do change more often than 10k, for example 5k (like muddyboots), just depends on how much you really care for the engines long term running, with 10k services it will still be fine for a good time hence why SEAT spec it.

The ecu has a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor located on the intercooler pipe to measure boost pressure. Once this gets extremely low or high it triggers a warning light and logged in the ECU to be read by VAG Com or the like.

Deano,

How did you notice e split boost pipe.

Mine hasn't needed any oil yet, only done about 2k it tho.

Another Question to anyone,

What are the warranty conditions with regards to servicing. My dealer screwed up and mine has missed an inspection service by 2 months. Its a 55 reg and has done 17K. It had its first service at 10K but that was just an oil change service. They told me the next one was due at 20k but it should still have had on after 12 months. I have played hell with them and they are going to do me a free 20k service tomorrow. Im worried about my warranty tho and the service history. Anyone got any comments? can they back date the service or anything?

Would really appreciate some advice.

Cheers,

Like Stew says, there is a boost pressure sensor, but I think it has to detect a BIG loss before it flags a fault. I managed to drive my Ibiza a few miles with a half-popped-apart boost pipe, plenty of smoke but it never flagged a fault.
