I agree the new GTI is well expensive, I dont understand why the Scirocco which is better equiped (with the adaptive suspension and 18" alloys standard) is £1000 cheaper, i too like my Volkswagens but who is going to buy the GTI ???

I guess I wont be getting a GTi at any point soon then. I wonder what price the R20T will be if the poverty spec GTi with the tiny wheels is £23k.

Cant see too many of them selling at that price as things are in the economy at the moment.

I'm sure the GTi will still sell but £23K is far too much. Almost into TT territory.

Cupra is £19370 basic or £20350 for the K1.

Generally the Cupra is much better equiped than the GTi (it certainly was compared to the old GTi), but remember the build quality isn't necessarily as good on the SEAT.

Also remember the Golf GTi performance wise is more on par with the FR which is £17420.

Start to spec it up a bit and you could be talking £26k plus.

I know what i would rather have for the money.

stupid money for what it is and yes no brainer with the RS only 2k more....

I am certain that the lsd is only computer stuff so not that good value really, if i want another golf soon it will either be a mk5 r32 again or the ed 30 both very good cars!!!

I am a little dissapointed really as i was hoping this would be my next car!!

What boggles my brains is it's priced above the equivilant Scirroco and Audi A3. Both of which I thought were ment to be higher end products.

EDIT: The golf gti that is.

Who knows what VW are thinking with the GTi pricing.

The £23K quoted by the way is the starting price for the 5 door, the 3 door is slightly cheaper.

I wonder if VW are going to struggle with it as they now have 2 cars very close aimed at the same market unless they are aiming more for family drivers with the GTi.

I'm sure though with the Scirocco on the market the new GTi won't sell as well.

I suppose maybe they can justify the extra for the GTi as it has a newer engine, but the thing that confuses me is the Mk 6 was introduced primarily to reduce production costs as the Mk 5 was too costly to build.

For that sort of money though, I'd got for a TT unless I needed a 5 seater car. I priced up a Scirroco when getting shot of the Cupra and by time I'd put leather seats on at £1500 and a few other bits and pieces it was almost as much as the starting price for a 2.0 TFSi TT.
