Hi There,

Great dilemma!

From experience with both current VAG electronics/driver assist systems/infotainment systems, coming from a 2021 VW Arteon Shooting Brake e-hybrid company car and now to a 2020 Cupra Leon estate, I’d take the Cupra any day.

The Arteon was riddled with software problems and spent most of it’s time in the garage being updated…admittedly, I threw the book at it when I specced it, and wish I hadn’t; my Cupra only has cruise control and I love that it’s not constantly whinging at me, fighting to keep me in a lane, and incorrectly identifying invisible vehicles and speed limits and slamming the brakes on on the motorway…

Also, the Ergocomfort seats weren’t that comfortable…even though I specced the fully electric nappa leather…the basic seats in the Cupra give me no grief and I’m driving longer distances in it, usually a 260 mile trip to my office, feeling refreshed when I arrive!

I mention the seats, as when I got my Cupra, it needed to go back for some warranty work, and the garage loaned me a Formentor with the Ergocomfort nappa leather electric seats for a day… I did 200 miles in it and felt like I was crippled!

The Formentor is a big car, but the boot’s quite small, the Leon’s is massive in comparison, at least in estate form.

The Formentor is a wicked looking wagon, both inside and out, so please don’t think I’m dissing it, I've had experience with both driving the Formentor (for only a short period), and two years of woe with current VAG software with the Arteon, so make sure you try both before committing!

Also check the capacitive touch climate control panel on the bottom of the infotainment screen in the Formentor…I believe they don’t light up at night…WTF…another inexcusable VW cockup with that generation!

Spend a little less on the Formentor and find a Leon Cupra R ABT estate and have a really rare, really capable, really fast load lugging machine…wish I’d have had the budget to do that, having owned my ‘standard’ 300 4 Drive for 6 months 😉

Cheers,

Nick
