Hi all, i have a problem that i hope is not going to cost me loads of money, i have noticed a knocking noise when decelerating, when going slow say 25-30 i can hear it and when slower its like a grinding, but when going quicker say 70-80 and backing off it really does vibrate allot, if i brake it goes away, i was thinking it could be the dog bone but after searching on here im thinking not. Can you guys give me an idea what to check tommorrow before i send it to the garage, where is the dog bone mount is it under the engine?? And do seat keep them in stock? thanks all.

I've had mine in at Kwik Fit and an Independant garage, goes away when on the ramp, nothing looks worn or anything, neither know what it is and just have to put up with it! An-oy-ing.

Mine does it at any speed, gets faster as the wheel gets faster. Only does it when not accelerating or braking though.

Well guys i think i have found the problem, the n/s front wheel bolts were loose!!!

I fitted some 17" wheels of a 2004 leon tdi fr mk1 a couple of weeks ago, the bolts that were in my standard 16" wheels would not fit in the new wheels so i had to change over all the bolts, i have tightened them up and all the problems have gone now, I Definatly tightened them properly when i done them and checked them the next day.
Is there likely to be a problem fitting the new bolts to my car or are they all the same execpt the head of the bolt. Was really worried when i found them loose, i had been down the motorway when i first noticed the problem ?!!

So to summerise i fitted later wheels and bolts to my 2001 cupra.. this ok??

Surrey darling...
The bolt heads have different taper designs which are either domed or straight - VAG normally have domed tapers...

It's possible that you are using cone seat bolts on wheels which require ball seats - you will be able to feel the difference by sticking your finger in the bolt holes on the wheels!

Hope that helps...

I had the same problem it was the front near side CV joint bearings worn soo much that they pop in and out of the mechanism inside the joint. Thats cured the knocking noise but i still hear a constant grinding noise when driving after 50 mph gets louder the faster i drive lol, sounds like its from the back near side. Hope this helps

Well i dont know what type is on there now but i had to use the bolts that came off the car with the 17" on, the bolts that i had on my 16" wheels would not fit in the actual wheel itself due to the head being to large for the type of wheel so i used all the new bolts, i will just regulary check them i think lol cheers all!! CHECK URE NUTS:lol:
