Leon clutch worries

Just got myself worried. I'm tempted by a leon 2.0TDI sport cos i figured i'd chip it and would have an ample 170hp (~350Nm torque). However, I was gonna wait for the FR TDI after being told by the dealer it would be 170hp (then figured that could be chipped to 200hp).

But then I read that the VAG golf V (leon) manual/DSG clutches can only take around 350Nm torque which is about what a 170hp 2.0TDI has. now i'm thinking if the clutch dies with the extra torque after chipping whats the point, anyone know any more detail before i revert back to buyin a sport instead of a FR?

Unless you are going to for for a crazy upgrade, you should be okay. I've been running my Altea 2.0 TDi Sport for 6 months with a digital tuning box that has , reportedly around 360Nm now and 165-170 bhp. I haven't found any worries with the DSG clutches yet. The car performs effortlessly, and I am confident enough now to go a further step and have a remap. Bit more refined, slightly more grunt and supposedly better power curve.
I think there have been instances of clutch slip on the odd manual car, but you might be better off doing a search for these and waiting for a few more replies to your thread from the manual guys. I am aware of at least one chap with a manual Altea with a remap who has nothing but praise for his setup.
It's always a concern modding a new car, as you don't want any issues to spoil your enjoyment or knacker the warranty.
There is a wealth of experience on here, and should help you to make up your mind. Plus if you wanted to buy a secondhand tuning box, there is one on the for sale area.

cheers loadswine,
i'm thinkin i might wait for the fr then, and keep my fingers crossed VAG still have massive safety allowances on clutches and the like. i presently have a mk1 leon tdi (110hp) and have run it for over 60K on a tuning box with no worries so far...although the clutch is close to the end now!

just didn't wanna commit to purchasing a new car and then find i'm stuck with the stock power and no flexibility.

Think it's luck of the draw. If they are the same as the mark 1's.

People have gone up to BIG bhp/lbs and been able to run standard clutches, others have had to have clutches replaced without chips.

Spin the wheel ....

Should think that the FR will have the potential to run with over 200bhp. Remappers will have sorted out tuning solutions by the time you have the car.
One thing though,as far as I know, Seat aren't offering the FR with the DSG box, least not yet, so if thatwas something you wanted, you might want to wait.
It is a damn clever piece of kit.

Ah ha! There we go then, maybe they're just strengthening it up then so we can give it more power :D

Yeah i've driven an A3 with DSG, very smooth i was impressed to say the least. I don't think I can wait much longer than summer.

VAG obviously use some kind of fuzzy logic when it comes to which marque gets what kit. The DSG box is obviously up to the job then.
The combination of the 170PS TDi with the DSG in the Leon would make a brilliant car. Looks better than the Golf IMHO.

exactly thats the car i want 170 tdi + dsg = fast fun effortless to drive.

i find the manual diesel is tiresome to drive , so the dsg would be perfect.

Mine is somewhere around 400Nm and I haven't had the slightest problem although it is a manual. Apparently there are loads of DSG remapped cars on the continent that are more than happy with the extra grunt.
