Hi my air con has stopped working.

I ran vag com and got the following

VAG-COM Version: Release 504.1-UD

Control Module Part Number: 1M0 820 043 D
Component and/or Version: 1M-CLIMATRONIC X0605
Software Coding: 00041
Work Shop Code: WSC 06402
1 Fault Found:
00792 - A/C Pressure Switch (F129)
31-00 - Open or Short to Ground

So I reckon its either low gas, bad switch or wiring. But before I pay for someone to service the gas I would like to see if its a wiring issue, Problem is I cant find the switch. Is it the one at the bulkhead in the middle under the window in the engine bay? this looks like a pressure switch but it only has 3 pins I was under the impression the A/C pressure sw has 4 pins. ANY HELP APPRECIATED thanks...

Can't help mate, other than sympathise. My air-con crapped out yesterday too. It was only in a few weeks ago for a weird watery/whooshing noise from behind the dash when the air con was running. They reckoned a seal had broken and the gas stuff had escaped. Now, same noise just for a few seconds and no difference in the temperature of the air coming out. Pants. Will ring them Monday I think.

Hi

Have you had the AC system serviced? it may be just low on gas, which has caused the pressure switch to cut in to protect the compressor.

All AC systems "use" gas over time, so kit is recommended that the system be serviced evey 2 years, this would include regassing, checking the system, for leaks and damage etc, and replacing the pollon filter. cost around £80 ish.

My 2003 Cupra lost 50% of the gas in 2 years, that is if the system was fully charged by Seat Spain :)

No barry, they didn't say. All they did say was that a seal had been 'pinched' somewhere, causing the gas to leak out. So, they were supposed to have replaced the seal and re-gassed it. I think it did work straight after, but having only just had these few hot days of wanting to use it, I don't know for definite.

This sounds very strange to me, the refrigerant gas will leak over time as quoted it will in all domestic fridges and freezers also.
The system however, must work at quite high pressure the gas being pumped round via smaller pipe work from the compressor.
It is then allowed to expand and cool on a type of grill and fan assisted air is blown across this into the car.
Now due to the very high pressure within the pipe work, a seal would be ineffective, it would be blown out as it were.
Usually if things go to earth, shorting a full check should be done including compressor, because if that goes to ground it will require changing.
A gas check will determine what the sealed unit is working at, and how much refrigerant is in the system whilst the dials are attached, they can read this easily.
I think the trouble here is that, not all whom you speak to will understand the system, and they may make a comment that they feel we can understand.

assuming you've had the aircon serviced at two years old and your warranty is still valid then it should be a free fix at a dealer.
If you didn't have the aircon service well you probably need to pay for that. I had mine done as part of the annual service last year.
