Leon 1.6S : Scraping noise, then EPC light on and throttle loss

Hi all,

Hope someone can help. I drive a Leon 1.6 S Petrol, and on the A1 the other day, doing approximately 20mph, my car started making a scraping sound, as if i was dragging something under the bumper.

I tried to shake whatever it was i thought i had caught off, but then my throttle went completely, the EPC light came on the dash, and i got off the road ASAP, and had to be towed home.

The local non-dealer garage where the car was left by the AA had a look, he noticed the fan belt had worn a bit, but there was as he put it "a lack of pressure" so the car wont start now.

The cars at the dealers now, but in good old dealer fashion theyre too busy to look at it til Thursday!

Any ideas to what this might be?

Update

Just to let you know, the Stealers have been in touch. They reckon its related to the cambelt, - the cambelt itself is fine, but the tensioners maybe at fault?

Im a newbie to the Seat world, but im fairly certain this shouldnt be happening on a car < 4yr old with only 21K on the clock.

Can anyone help on this - I'd like something solid to go back to Seat with when they try and get me to pay for it.

i think they are twin overhead cam! mine is!! small belt that sits between the two cams and one main driven by the engine take off the air filter and undo the clips that cover the cam belt (same side as aux belt) have a look hopefully it not top small belt as that would knacker the valves if its main belt it would be better (if that is better!) :( could be tension but don't think so!!!!

i have a 1.6 leon and it is a twin cam, reacently i was driving along and the car just died found it weard cos it only being a 52 plate and 23000 miles on the clock!!
got it towed 2 the garage and they fount out that there was no compression in the engine!! they later said that the valves were bent and the pistons were damaged, but they didnt know y cos the cam belt was fine and the timing wasnt out either, so its all been abit of a mistory....
they eventaly put a recon engine in it and 3 months later i got it back, its been running fine so far, but we will c!!
i was luck cos i only had the car three weeks and it was under waranty.
