Leaking Rear Wash Pipe :(

Hi,

So far April hasn't been to kind to my LCR :(. Not only did some woman clout into my back bumper but I also seem to have a leak from my rear wash pipe.

I'm not sure where the pipe leak is but its dripping behind the carpet on the left hand side of my boot (just where the light and 12v plug is). There doesn’t seem to be any water coming from the boot lid, seats or headlining.

I was wondering whether this is a known issue???

I replaced the standard LCR rear wiper with a Fabia wiper a week or two back but I know this didn’t cause the problem as I have used the washer since. The only thing i can think of is that the bump dislodged the pipe???

The car is still in warrantee and I have booked it in for the 15th to have the rear bumper resprayed. I'm also going to ask SEAT to fix the leak, however I’m unsure whether I should put the OE wiper back on as I don't want SEAT to blame me for the damage...What do you think???

Cheers
Alex

I don't think they would even notice the change of wiper. And if they do try and blame you, ask them to prove it. They would have a hard time coming up with a reason why or how it could be your fault.

You might find that behind the side boot trim in the vicinity of the wheel arch, there's a factory join in the water feed pipe.

This is certainly the case for VW Polos etc.

It's a connecting sleeve (male ends) that can come adrift causing the leak, not helped by the fact that the minimum amount of tubing is used which puts unnecessary strain on the joints.

Pushing the tube ends fully back on the sleeve and then securing each tube with a cable tie should sort it.

If that is what's happened of course.

Hope that helps.

Yep, it's a well known trouble-spot if you don't keep plenty of anti-freeze in your washer bottle when it's icey. Liquid freezes near rear-washer jet and pressure of pump forces joint apart. It's easy to fix but a pain in the butt to get to and clean up all the liquid that gets pumped out before you know what's happened, and runs into the boot and spare well... :(
