the burbs...
My LCR started having a misfire between 2500 and 3500 when on wide open throttle. Tried resetting ECU, aligning throttle body, changed the type of petrol but no luck on sorting it out. It almost sounds like it is running on 3 cylinders till it clears 3500 Rpm then runs fine. It seems at max boost is when the misfire happens. Anyone got any ideas ?

Howdy john:D . It has been a bit of a high maintenance one, compared to my old cupra, but certainly goes well once running right,:funk: just needs to run right more often  No lights on the dash, just a misfire on wide open throttle. It is still under warranty but it is a pain in the ass.[:@] [:@]

Its your coil packs mate, they are on the way out but not just yet if you know what i mean.

I had all 4 go within 1 month of each other so i know what the symptoms are lol.

You need to get the ecu fault code read, although there may not be an engine warning light, you will have a misfire code stored on the ecu.

Either vagcom or plug in a fault code reader to detect which cylinder.

If you're with the AA/RAC etc, give them a bell and they will come out and supply and fit it for you! Just tell them you suspect its a coilpack, so they have spares in their van. Saves going to a garage and sourcing the parts yourself.

Cost about £31 for a coilpack

Heard that rumour but not sure if its true.

They would charge him though for labour and reading ecu so it may not be worth it. They wont just give him a free coil pack and say fit it yourself.

They'll get their moneys worth somehow meaning its more cost effective to do it yourself IMO.

Thanks guys, Hi Ho Hi Ho, it's off to the dealer i'll go. My previous cupra gave no problems over the the three years I owned it. This one seems to be more of a high maintenance lady, so far it is water pipe, door leaks, bashed in passenger door (not a fault on the car to be fair) and now this. Oh well, as any ex alfa romeo owner will tell you... it gives the car character.
