LCR - Whats this, and should it click lots?

I hate the orange game!
Could anyone tell me what the following part in the engine bay is, what it does, and if it is meant to click very loudly (and also increasing in frequency) for 30 seconds or so every 5 mins (when the car is left idling)?

Thanks.

har har guys :p

Anyways, I have found out what I think it is from doing a little googling, the carbon/charcoal filter is it not?

Anyways, a new question, if its easily audible from within the cabin, with the radio on quietly, do I need to get it replaced, and would it be covered under warranty?

Ta.

The charcoal filters can click quite a lot on some cars. I can hear the one on my Elise, but that's probably because it's located roughly a foot from my left ear ;)
The Elise only does it when the it's warming up, after about 2 minutes, and then goes away when the engine is up to temp. If you can hear it from the cabin then it may be time to get it looked at.

I hear mine when the bonnet is open and the car is on tickover.

If you can hear it in the cabin, then it may be faulty. I certainly can't hear mine!

Oh and welcome, from OCUK!

Well its going into Seat Crewe on the 15th for some warranty work, so I suppose I should get them to change it then :)

Wanna hear another noise?

Open bonnet, then open drivers door. Insert key, turn ignition to on, but do not start. Listen to the whistle/tone from the engine bay! If you want to hear another noise, stick your ear near to the front of the engine cover. Click, tick & whine!

Don't worry, it resets the throttle bodie (i think). Leave it till it stops and jobs a good'un.
