i've not had a go with an r32 yet , however i did get somewhat of an ass kicking from a bee em 330i coupe the other day, he put the foot down coming off a roundabout we were on and i completely made a balls up of my gear change and he pulled away by about 60 yards, by the time i got my act together he wasn't getting any further away but by then he would have been rather smugly thinking that cupra r's are shoite, no excuses though that thing was fast.

It's good to see these new 32's getting used properly, i was on the A14 the other week and i wasn't hanging about when another 32 came out of nowhere, the guy was caning it big style 120mph+ . I noticed he had a few stickers on from a tuning company but i couldn't read them as he passed too fast  I daren't go to the dealers to see one  in case i

I'm living in Germany now. Had a tussle with one on the Autobahn just north of Gelsenkirchen. He pulled into the outside lane after cutting about 3 or 4 cars up but couldn't get past me.

My car is LC, remapped by Star Performance to 221 bhp/250 lbs ft. Milltek cat back, Hyperboost DV. He had 20 bhp more than me but 14 lbs ft less. The 4WD system must be killing that car. For £25k I'd be expecting something that would make short work of a £7k Leon Cupra with £1k spent on it.

Aye for 25k it should be a bit better looking for starters. If i could afford 25 grand i'd be looking for a RS4 avant, now, thats real looks and power.

I made the jump from a early LCR to a MKV R32. The 2 cars are so different in characteristics they are difficult to compare.

Although the R32 has more power it is a fair bit heavier so the performance is similar, although I would imagine a chipped LCR would show the R32 a clean pair of heels in the dry. The R32 is silky smooth and the grip is phenomenal even in the wet, plus that V6 sounds lovely.

Where the R32 scores is it is a refined high speed mile cruncher, however I do sometimes miss the spooling of the Turbo nd the torque steer of the LCR. The R32 does it all wthout any fuss and as such can feel slow, which of course it isn'

Agreed, 25K for a Golf is ludicrous. I quite like them but just not 'special' enough for what they cost.

To be fair, i think the MK4 R32 at least has to be praised for what was VAG's best 'out of the box' hatch for a hell of a long time. It had looks, a great engine, the sound and for the chassis it was on, handled incredibly well (if a little crashy).

It's a remarkably quick cross country car driven by the right person. The great thing is that in typical english weather it can be driven at 90% even in poor conditions, the grip is astonishing.

I love them, give it a couple of years and the used ones will be a seriously tempting buy.

Had my LCR at Brands on a trackday a few weeks ago and matched a new R32 around there all afternoon. I think he was a bit upset considering how much money he had just spent!
Also got a ride round there in Nick Mason's McLaren F1. Now that's a whole new ballgame!
