LCR Speakers

I am thinking of changing the speakers in my LCR. I only want to change them for standard sizes as I dont want to change the look of the car. I am also keeping the standard head unit in. Has anybody else already done this and can recommend some good speakers?

I am also unsure of the standard size. If somebody could tell me the size it would be very useful.

The speakers are 17cm components, they're not a standard fitment to the doors but you can use Mk4 Golf speaker adapters from autoleads to fit any 17cm speakers.

Most people change the HU and are happy with the standard speakers. Personally I think the lot is crap

I think you'll find if you change to a more powerful head unit it'll sound alot better! Standard speakers are pretty good, it's the head unit that lets them down apparently!

Have to agree with that, the standard speakers in the LCR are very good.

You would be mad to change the speakers and keep the standard HU.

Its the standard HU that is the problem, its absoloute garbage, change it and you will notice a hell of a difference. Speakers are top notch IMO with a good HU:)

I'd have done it in a second just don't want to have to replace the CD changer too... I don't suppose it's compatible with other HUs

Changer isn't compatable with aftermarket headunits and no adaptors available either

If your getting a new headunit most peeps tend to for an IPod adaptor which takes the CD changer out of the equation, course, you need an IPod as well

I've got a Pioneer DEH 7600 with Ipod adaptor and it works really well

No you can't use the changer with an aftermarket HU.

In reality the standard Aura CD HU is pretty good. It's output is quite flat on an RTA when using a high to low convertor. But the amp can't drive better speakers and if you're going to replace the speakers and put an amp in then you will get even better sound by replacing the HU as well.

So my advice is always to replace the HU first then decide if you want to go further with the upgrades. If you want something that looks standard but sounds great take a look at the Becker HU's. They look very standard but sound much much better than the Seat offering.

Is it worth putting a sub in for a bit of extra bass and turning the bass down on the stock speakers? Want something a bit better but nothing OTT. Got the AVIC X1R head unit and DVD's seem pony on the standard set up

Not sure about Becker unit's as might be same size as Aura Seat one but for most you need a single din adaptor

Sadly no pic but search on here will reveal some guys that have got this and it looks pretty good

I've got an autoleads one that might be the same but for some reason it look :censored: in mine so I'm currently waiting for an Audi A3 one to see if that's any better

cochise, when i had my alpine HU fitted even though it had to be booked 2weeks in advance and they new which car it was they didnt have any leon ones, so put an audi A3 one in, put up with it for a while, but it really did look s**t! might look ok if you could modify it somehow, but it stuck out further, and wasnt quite wide enough.

Isn't the standard HU a single DIN anyway?

I assume an adapter harness for the standard wiring is usually required?

I Assuem I could just run an external amp (4ch) on a high to low coverter and run the rear speakers and a sub off it?

Red

Thanks for that, interesting to know

I've actually ordered and paid for it now, thankfully it was only about £13 I think so if it doesn't fit I'll pop it on e-bay or somesuch. Prob pick it up from dealer this w'e

I'm actually gutted with the Autoleads one I've got as it appears slightly too large and sits too proud so I'm not entirely sure it's for the Leon. I didn't install myself so hard to say but I did trust the guys doing the install and I've no complaints with the other bits they've done sooo

I thought the Aura HU was single din on first look, wait till you get it out, it's massive :ban:

Pete will be better placed to answer the amp question as I'm not technical enough to confirm your options

I wanted an amp but wasn't prepared to have it mounted to the back seat so gave it a miss as nowhere else for it to go really. Shame as I've got some nice Infinity speakers which technically are actaully too good for the HU to run on it's own

if memory serves correct, the A3 radio is DIN height but wider, the leon being pretty much the same width but slightly taller than DIN too. the A3 Fascia is two blocks rather than a plate and there is therefore a thin gap above the new radio when used in the leon.

I think the one i have now is an autoleads one, it came from sextons, and they fitted it too. normally do stuff myself but if fittings free why not.

It too does sit slightly proud, but its hardly noticable at all. its never gonna look like an original part, apart from at night cos the red illumination looks exactly like everything else, but during the day i hardly notice it anymore, and it definately was a great improvement over the A3 one. sorry if thats not what you wanna hear just having bought it.

Magic...

I'll have a look at it Sat and see if I fancy changing it over

I'll take a picture of my current one in a bit and post it for comparison

IMO I reckon if Autoleads make the sourrounds for specific vehicles they could at least get it as flush as possible but maybe I expect to much from something that costs about a tenner

The Leon HU is din height but is has a much wider facia hense the need for the adapter plate to fill the gaps at the side. Some HU's don't look like they fill the hole as the surround is rounded.

The autoleads surround has always been fine when I've used them, unless they've changed recently. Also I beleive SEAT dealers can order a SEAT one, although not sure if thats 100%.

You could use a high to low convertor off the speaker outs and then run an amp off it. But if you're after a better quality sound, rather than just louder, then a replacement HU is probably the best place to start.
