Hi Chaps,

Been a while since I posted anythig on this Forum and trust you are all well.
I used to own a Leon Cupra, and since selling it been driving a Micra :wtf:

BUT NOW...!!! I am looking for an LCR and I'm going to see one on Saturday. Its a 2004 Cupra R with 20k on the clock. Its got all documentation including full Seat service history and looked after very well, etc etc you know, the kind of car you like to hear about where no expense has been spared.

Now, this is where you guys come in. I'm not gonna bother doing an AA inspection, but rather HPI it and check all the documentation and verify VIN and engine numbers myself. I just think for a car so young is it really worth getting an inspection done?, its still a baby. Also can anyone of you give me any pointers or tell tale signs I should be looking for?, any help much appreciated.

Regards

Jay (20VT) soon to be Jay(R)

I think your right make sure the documents are all OK, make sure you get HPI and outstanding finance checked.

Then a visual check panel damage, panel gap, tyre wear should be even (well the Pirellis wear in the middle first but that aside), paint colour match panel to panel, see how it drives....

Does the car have any warranty left? if so this could help protect you

Thanks Steve, The car itself is costing me a stretch, the bloke seems well genuine and he keeps saying that I will not be dissapointed. Fingers crossed all goes well. How much is a proper HPI check now adays, and I take it the engine number is on the engine, but where?

I recommend AA data check, they cover you. Thats around 35 quid. YOu just need the reg number and chasis number

Chasis number in a little window at the base of the windscreen check against V5
Sticky white label on Boot floor under carpet should say BAM as engine code and give a few details about the car.
Engine number on V5 and I believe it's stamped just under the engine cover - someone may be able to confirm.

Whichever data check make sure it does outstanding finance

Jay, I bought an 04 LCR in April with only 11k on the clock, I paid 35 quid to have the AA check done. For pure peace of mind it is well worth the money. It may be a baby but anything can happen in a few years of driving, even if its not high milage.

Get down low and look up at the panels and check for any orange peel effect on the paint work, usually the sign of a respray. Factory finish will be completely devoid of any rippling effect and just look mirror smooth. Check the inside of the boot under the mat and look for any ripples in the metal work, would indicate a rear end shunt that's been fixed.
