Was watching a repeat of a topgear episode lastnite, the hamster was looking at future classic's and one example that he choose was the vw corrado, why a future classic? Because of its good looks and because its simply very rare.

SO, just wondering, for sure over here (Ireland) the LCR is a very rare motor (I estimate ten in the country), how about in the UK, is there alot of LCR's on the road, I suspect there would be more LC's, but in ten years time ye guys reckon it'd be the new corrado????

I seem to see quite a few LCRs about... rarer than a lot of other hot hatches though (CTRs etc)

Well if you can consider my current fleet as a future investment I have both :D

First was the Corrado - slightly mod'd but still nice IMO...

And the recent purchase of my 55 plate LCR!

I hope it does become a future classic, won't do any harm to the used values for all of us who plan to keep our LCR's for a long time! Just look at the prices of Escort Cosworths and good example Lancia Integrale Evo's, it would be great to know my car is still in demand in another ten years.[B)]

Well I've just been informed there are 3 in my home town, this is a place where there are more horses than cars!

oo i miss my corrado...

VW are likely to bring back the scirroco though.... :)

there are too many LCRs to be a classic i think, its also not a "car on its own" as such.. or has anything in particular about it that stands it out from the crowd.

im not knocking it, its a great car, but to be a classic there needs to be "something" about it.

I had an Mi16 also described as a future classic.

They were a great car, the XU9J4 engine was made in the early 90's so about 15 years ago, 1.9 normaly aspirated and I saw a standard one pull nearly 200 bhp (peugeot played with them before going into cars or so the rumour has it). The offical figure was 165 bhp.

Not bad for nomaly aspirated now never mind 15 years ago.

Mine was 2.0ltr xu10J4 giving 172bhp (155bhp in standard spec) in concours condition but it still went for just £2500, so don't all be banking on making £££'s on a 'future' classic, unless it has an RS badge

The thing is chaps, the LCR doesn't have the breeding of some of the others or the high profile motorsport successes or the branding assosciated with something like Cosworth.

As much as I love the Leon's they are no future classics in the way that Lancia's, Corrado's and Cossies are - there's too many of 'em on the whole and they weren't the first of their kind or class leading in terms of technology and new ideas.

Still, keep 'em looking nice and properly looked after and they will become classics in that they will be old and in great nick - much in the same way as a MKII XR2 or MK3 Golf Gti will be in 30 years time.

only 5 LCR's here in jersey and iv been told only 2 in guernsey loads of ctr's and scoobys
there more corrado vr6's here than LCR's
future classic probably not!!

see lots of cupras on my travels around the UK but never THAT many LCR's so yeah they could be a classic ;)

I think LCRs will become classics in the sense that their looks won't age as badly as some others. It's still the best looking hot hatch IMO, but I am biased!

If Seat gain a more significant share of the UK car market in the next 5 years then an unmolested example of their earliest flagship model should hold its value fairly well. Especially as there were never that many around to start with!

Too many leons about, well how many Mk3 escorts were sold in the UK but the white lightening is a classic.

Top Gear said the Mi16 is a future classic but again how many 405's were made (usual taxis)

And neither of these had a grwat track record (the 405 T16 rally raid did well though:funk: )

Out interest what did the corado do for us apart from the electric spoiler?

You can not pin down any reason for future classics, they just become them
