LCR fans - how much?!?

Having had problems the other day with my temp guage going off the charts I checked on here likely issues and the cooling fans (fast and slow) seemed the most likely bet

AA man came out after limping the car home with boiling coolant! and confirmed the same but obv this would be a dealer fix

Having recovered the car from the dealers today I am in shock and awe at the amount of dosh it's actually cost me to sort this out (£800+)

Not sure if this affects only LCR's but if you have any of the symptoms (noisy fans, crap air con or blown 40 amp fuses on top of battery) get to your dealer ASAP, preferably under warantee. As I'm out of mine by just over a month it's fair to say I'm currently a bit :censored: off to say the least

if its only a month or so you could try the good faith route, especially if they serviced the car each time, or at least a couple of times.

It is a common fault , so surely you could argue for at least a discount if not a freebie!!

Its things like this that are persuading me to go for an extended warranty (http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=90247).

My car is going in on Monday (the last day of my warranty) to have at least a new head gasket (possibly some other bits as well) to fix an oil leak that the dealer discovered at the last service. The dealer has said they need it for two days - I hate to think how much that would have cost me.

They have quoted me £380 for a years warranty, you paid £800 pounds for the fans being replaced (which I had done under warranty last year) then £380 sounds pretty good value. The car has now had 5 warranty repairs:
  1. Drivers seat refitted due to it being fitted wrong from new
  2. Temperature coolant sensor replaced
  3. Cooling fans replaced
  4. Lambda sensor replaced
  5. Head gasket replaced

Are there any other common Leon faults that I haven't had yet ?

An optomist would view this as 'nothing else can go wrong', but I view it as a warning sign of things to come ;)

Am I tempting fate to say I haven't had a single problem with my Leon from new, nearly 18 months old now !

Damn - I said it !!!!

Yes you are Chris as my fans went earlier this year about 20 months into ownership.... Fortunately it is all warranty and like Bob said think I will be investing in extended warranty as so far I have probably saved £1500 to £2000 pounds thanks to warranty.......

Sorry to hear about this Darth it is a nightmare especially just out of warranty someone else on here pushed them for compensation for this and got it all done for free as good will so I would speak to your dealer and then SEAT UK if you can, good luck.

They're not actually my normal dealer. Just used them as closer and couldn't risk getting driving car to my normal one. They did speak to Seat/VW about a goodwill gesture but got negative reply. I will however prob write to Seat UK directly when I have a moment and see if they'll play ball with at least some contribution, not holding out much hope though

Bob

Have been offered the extended warantee for just under £300 and am seriously conisdering it as I'm likely to keep the car for a considerable amount of time given the mods I've now had done to it ;)

Chris

Sound like you've been lucky so far mate, you will almost certainly have something go during the first 3 years, hopefully nothing major though. To be fair the only other bits I have done under warantee were a blown fuel pump fuse and a dodgy glove box catch when I first got it. Just a shame this prob didn't fall in the 3 years :censored:

Rudd

I prob wouldn't have a clue where to start with reconditioning the fans and I'd feel bad about passing them off as such anyway. To be honest I hope I never see the damn things again

Kinghams of Croydon mate

Just said I'd think about it for now so didn't go into details

Not sure why they can do cheaper. Think something to do with doing it direct so might tie me to that dealer  . I'll investigate further in due course. They have a customer service bod who I prob need to speak to further in the first instance

Just got a very good quote for an extended warranty from http://www.warrantywise.co.uk/ . They have quoted me £244 and that includes just about everything, a limit of £5000 per claim, air con cover and main dealer rates. It also includes free tyre insurance !

Out of the 4 different providers I have looked at, these seem to be the best on price and policy features.
