LCR Crash

Hey guys,

I'm in France and back ended a 4x4 in the ice. Didnt have a Green Card so i'm paying for the damage to my LCR out of my pocket.

I knackered the bumper, radiator and bonnet. Damage didnt look too bad, no chassis damage and the front left and right wings are fine.

However, the cost for my estimate was 5000 EUROS! Thats over £3000.

Does this sound like i'm getting taken for a ride? Or should i pay up?

Advice would be great. Cheers.

Have you checked with your Insurer fella, cause Green Cards are a thing of the past, EU legistlation and all that.

The EU says your insurer has to give you the minium covr for the aplicable country therefore TPO.

As a result the greencard (it really was green) died however you still need to inform your insurer if you are going out of the country to increase your standard comp cover to the country to where youare traveling (and paying the additional premium)

Hi who are you insured with as i work in the industry and most companies are giving 30 days free cover abroad. This is mainly due to eu legislation.

Indeed if you tell them beforehand, if you argue and point out you have not prejudiced their possition by not warning them/increasing repair costs and prove you do not go abroad all the time, they may let you claim but I would not hold my breath.

many compnies such as direct line, hastings direct, norwich union, sabre, NIG. Offer free cover abroad for which you do not need to contact in advance, so may be worth a shot

at a guess parts would be:
front bumper about £337
front bumper grills.. £80
air guide panels £20
splitter £17
radiator £166
air con radiator £305
front panel (part that holds raditor and goes across front £165
front crash bar £80?
headlights will be knackered £222
fogs? £135
Painting / prep of front bummper £130

so thats a total of 1657 for parts excluding the bonnet which im unsure how much that will cost. lets say £400? plus £250 for paint...?
thats £2307
plus VAT...
£2710 EXCLUDING LABOUR so £3000 sounds ok!
although some parts you may not need...

but is the car drivable? i presume not. as some parts are available much cheaper.
for example the air con radiator/condensor is £305 + vat from seat but are availabel for £75 on the net direct from manufacturer...

I'm insured with Admiral. Firs they said i had fully comp insurance, then they phoned me back to say that i only had third party because i hadn't applied for a Green Card. Subsequently, the 4x4 (who barely has a scraped bumper) can claim from that. Though he's hapy if i pay him cash and save no-claims.

If the damage is 3k, then I'll have to bite the bullet. As long as I'm not being taken for a ride round the block my Mr Frenchman.

I'll phone insurance back and see what i can do, car is drivable, though the radiator heats up pretty quick.

Thanks guys,

1000 Miles to Edinburgh, the radiator will overheat after 2. Its a long way to have the thing towed...
