As some of you may be aware, I have had an issue with a coolant leak as well as the revs dropping evey now and then when idling.

I like many thought that the rough idling was be jade of a vacuum leak. I have now had this smoke tested and a vacuum leak where the dipstick was incorrectly fitted has been sorted aswell as a blanking plate on the removed sai fitted. I am now certain there is no vacuum leak however it's still idling rough! I tried cleaning the throttle body a while ago however I did not unplug it so I wouldn't have to get it adapted again! I asked the guys at gmsmaidstone if I should replace the maf sensor and he said not to bother so I don't know what I can do about this!

The other issue is the coolant leak, they pressure tested the coolant system and they said it is holding pressure as it should so they weren't sure what was causing my loss of coolant! The fact that it occasionally makes my fan belt squeak lead them to believe it could possible be the water pump but he wasn't certain! I have read somewhere that sometime that coolant caps go bad and cause a loss in coolant? Is it worth buying a new cap?

Would just just to get anyone's opinion as to what could be causing my issues as these are the last things that need fixing before its running perfectly! The mechanic did actually mention something about the possibility of the coolant being he head gasket which is worrying! Is it worth draining the coolant and using some k seal or something like that while the problem isn't bad?

just remembered he wasnt too impressed that the n249 valve and sai were removed! he said when you start remapping/modding/taking bits out, it never runs as well as it did when it came out of the factory. Does this sound about right? surely everyone who does these common bypasses doesnt have idling issues

Unless the engine is allowed to overheat the the headgaskets are usually pretty bullet proof on the 1.8T mate

Well I was running for I don't know how long. With dangerously low coolant but the temperature gauge didn't go above where it should be! I just want it to idle as it should and not lose coolant so I can take it to stage 2!
