Dear All,

I am not sure if this is a rip-off but this is the quote from AVIT in Slough:

"Hello
The total cost for cambelt, cambelt damper, waterpump, coolant and ribbed belt change for your Leon Cupra R would be £412.25 inc vat total. We always use genuine dealer parts which means your warranty

will not be affected. Being a new customer we can offer a 10% discount on parts which brings the total to £387.94 inc vat total. If you would like to make a booking please contact Sunny Dhesi on 01753 532900.

Many Thanks.

A.V.I.T LTD.

Autotechnic in Wokingham, Berkshire quoted:

Hi, I Would be using genuine VW parts the prices are as follows ;
Cambelt kit £ 88.00, Ribbed belt £32.00, Coolant pump £30.20 antifreeze £4.00 Labour£165.00 V.A,T £55.86
Total £375.06
Regards Tony Rolfe

I am sure that at a Seat Dealer in Leicester the price is only about £285. Both of the quotes above are from so called VAG speclists.

I don't get it. You got 2 quotes form places near london then compare the to a dealer quote from leicester? Overheads are greater down south so the cost will be more. Phone a dealer in the same area to compare. Are you sure the dealer included everything, the waterpump isn't a standard item to be chnged with the cambelt?

Plus specialists aren't always cheaper, just better.

Doesn't seem too bad
I paid £350 in Scotland by a very good garage and didn't complain
If its done right and not by a spott little teenager then go for it

The price at the AVIT was a bit of a joke, if I am a new customer and they are offering 10% off, does't this already sound like rip off. I mean come on, 10% off for a new customer!!

They should already be offering there best price, I mean there are a speclists, cheaper than a main dealer.

Obviously Leicester Seat is cheaper but I would off expected that a speclist is cheaper?

Regards.

Have you actually met Sunny and the boys ?

They are not offering cut price work and will not necessarily be cheaper, they are Dub enthusiasts and from what I've seen they know their stuff.

Was the SEAT dealer offering the exact same service ?

I found your thread title offensive as you have not been ripped off, merely given a quote that can be beaten.

Give SEAT Windsor a call and get a comparative quote.

or for a completely independent quote try Reliance Auto Test, they are at two minutes away. http://www.relianceautotest.com/

The main dealer won't quote for a replacement water pump and may not include a replacement tensioner. HOWEVER it's a flipping good idea to have these items done at the same time on the grounds it'll cost you a whole lot more than an hour in labour and a couple of cheap parts for them to strip the engine down and remove the cambelt to replace any of it between cambelt change intervals.

My Passat 1.8T requires the whole front end removing to access the cambelt and here in the South East with the labour rates you'll do well to get that done for less than £500 with parts etc.

I'd say both those prices are fair, so as suggested ask the dealer locally to the specialists for a comparable quote AND make sure they're quoting like-for-like

Hi
I have dealt with AVIT quite a bit and they are a good bunch of lads
The main differences as has already been said is that water pump from a dealer is a definate no no as they do not see it as being a problem
The main problem is getting people through the door when you are a specialist
When you are there you can see what the set up is like and maybe just return or see about some other parts
So it is reasonalbe to do an offer to new customers so they can see what you are about
The problem we get (and so many other tuners) is that we work so hard at trying to get people in , keeping new customers , working so hard to try and please everyone and then someone comes on to the forum kicking off like this [:@]
Does not look good for someone who works really hard for a living when he has done nothing wrong
At least you got a reply

Fair play Sarah,
I've seen too much of this aswell and what people forget it that wrongly placed comments can seriously hurt a buisness
Please be careful when posting about a buisness, wrong info can hurt years of good work

your not comparing like for like.
i am sure the £285 quoted from seat dealer will not include the water pump and possibly not the tensioner. and maybe even not vat?
If this is correct then the original quote is competitive and open and honest as it includes all extras.

I take the comment back regarding rip off.

But offering 10% off because of a new customers, is poor pactice. The price given should already be the chepeast quote.

Thread name edited, I would urge everyone to be much more selective with your chosen words. Not only do your threads appear here. We hit Google very high too so your making accusations on a much wider scale.

In my opinion, people are much too eager to use a forum to take an anonymous dig at companies, than they are to talk to a company directly about their complaint or disappointments.

Use a little restraint and be objective.
