LCR 225BHP Reliability / Price

Fancying going for one of these, seen a few high mileage ones advertised recently but in the past they have all been quite low...and obviously pricey.

How reliable are these once they are knocking on for 120k upwards.

Any particular things to look out for, any common faults/issues.

What sort of money should be looking to pay for an early one with in excess of 100k.

Oh and it the timing belt schedule 60k on these?

There a reliable car every car has bad points

New a few are water leaks, coil packs, rear washer pipe popping off water pump crap(plastic impellor)

Mine had belts changed at 40k

oh an if it has FSH i carnt see it been a problem after all its a golf an they run forever hehe

Yeh true about the golfs..but is the lump not lifted from the TT?

You see stacks of high miler golfs yet with the LCR you don't see a great deal of high milers.

So either they are being binned before reach high miles or not getting much use lol

Seen a good few for sale, just not a great deal of high milers, most seem to be very low infact, which pushes the price up to, hence thinking of trying to pick up a cheaper high miler

Above what I've got to spend I'm afraid, did get offered a very low mileage one at an amazing price but again not amazing to my pocket :)

I bought an 05 plate LCR225 with 74k on the clock - I've discovered and fixed a water leak, had a coil pack go and found that the slow speed rad fan is knackered (puts extra load on the high speed fan - if the resistor for this later blows you're left with no fans at all). Got an intermittent engine management light for vehicle speed sensor - but this should be cheap and not affect driveability.

Besides all the above, a lesser known issue I've come across at this forum is oil starvation due to a blocked feed pipe in the sump (sludgy oil) - I think this just reinforces a tight oil change interval for turbo cars and possibly having that pipe cleaned out at high miles (which I plan to have done next month). Obviously starvation will destroy an engine, but I'd hope regular oil changes would avoid the sludge in the first place.. so a good service history is important I'd say. I looked into turbo lifetime as well but there are reports of VAG turbo cars hitting 200k easily and still running, so as long as it doesn't sound ill on boost, this shouldnt be a problem. I've heard that experienced techs can check for turbo wear by wobbling the shaft to determine how much play there is.

Thanks for the info, have came across a 53 plate with 120k.

What would be a fair price for this, they were talking 4k but the rear door seems to be pushed in slightly where exiting a driveway was misjudged, paint doesn't appear to be broken at all
